Slow play is a strategy. It is also a tell when a slow player all of a sudden is slap happy ready to bet. It will get to the money lots of times, usually the blinds ticking up leave you short. Making a move while many go overly tight and play slow can be a great advantage to you. I like to increase my range and press then.

This is a standard strategy, I tend to only stall when it is a ticket tourney, or when I'm incredibly short and doubling up won't improve my odds very much.

Tis within the rules so it is a decision each player is free to make each hand. It matters not if the intent of the player is to play in a jerky fashion or if one or more of the other players at the table believe it to be jerky behavior it is allowed.

QFT.

In any game or sport, if it's within the frame of the set rules, it can't be wrong and never will be.

When I have a big pile I hate to be done. When my stack is small, I not only love being done, but I do it too.

Hello. If 20 are paid. If the 20th gets say $1000. 21 people are left. You are number 21 by say $500. The table play is 9 players. The play on the table and other tables is aggressive. You hold AA and are UG. Are you willing to bet? Or are you wanting to stall in hopes one gets eliminated? How important is the $1000 to you?

Stalling to make money I understand I guess but when a player uses all the time in their time bank every single hand that really frustrates me.
Maybe he's lost his internet.)

It makes you a smart player. You're playing the game to make money. If that takes stalling, playing only premium hands, or using every last second you can, you're using good strategy.

Using every second you can, is even a good strategy during a tournament. It's a great online tell, because the impatient players will soon let you know, and you can make their impatience work against them.

It's not you that's taking the time, it's the site that's giving it to you to use as you see fit.

There are lots of tournaments the impatient players can play. Just look at the different schedules.....you'll see many.

If you're getting into the money.....good for you.

Poker is a game for money and you must use all methods that are not prohibited by the rules to get the maximum profit !!!

Will have to agree with the above. Using time and stalling within the rules and boundaries is often a mark a smart player.

Furthermore, switching gears once in a while makes one’s playing pattern harder to predict…

Just my two cents.

In some cases I do it too. But usually don't. And I hate when they do it with no need.

It's a very common thing and I don't see anything bad in it. People have to do what they can to get that ITM.

I think it's a poker stratagem, too.

Winner need every stratagem that he can use.

I don't really have a problem with it. However, when it's hand to hand and dudes are STILL stalling, then it annoys me.

For example, if there are four tables still active, and the hands at the other three tables have finished, why are you still stalling bro? You just make the blinds come faster. It's goddam HAND FOR HAND!

I suppose one reason is if the short stacks are close in size, and on another table, a player might have more chips than you, but if the blinds increase, he won't have enough to cover, and he might blind out before you do even though he's got more chips. So you stall to make sure the blinds increase before it gets to him.

But that's extra cheap.
