I think in live games satellites are great. They give you a chance to win a seat to play in a tournament that your bankroll wouldnt be able to afford. I agree that a one table with 1 seat awarded wouldnt be ideal, but still if i could get into the main event for a grand it'd be well worth it!!

Didnt Moneymaker win his WSOP MainEvent Entry via Satellites back in 2003?

yes he did and he continues to encourage in his streams to play sattys to get into a tournament cheap. You should ultimately study the satellite you are joining (# seats given away, buy-in to satellite, # of players) and determine initially if you are fine with the risk you are to take. And this assumes that you have a pretty good skill level to win in that satellite Tourni structure.

Example: if someone makes you pay 10c for 4 max table on a tournament with 16 players, it means each player on the table would theoretically win 25% in the long term. Then if each winner on the table is joined into a final 4 player table to fight for 2 seats, 50% will get paid which says basically a player has 12.5% chance of win. 10cents/12.5% = should not exceed cost of tournament which is generally not the case (you can check urself). so for a newbie sattys are not such a good alternative for just dabbling to get to a tournament. for good players however, yes.

I personally think satellites are okay. They allow players to have shots on higher limit MTTs without going out of their bankroll management limits.
It also great for the regs of those limits, as they get weaker players in their games. So it's a kind of win-win situation.
Also, some sateys have a nice overlay on tickets.

i really like the sats for 10% of the buy-in for the Tournament where ~10% of the field gets a ticket and pokerstars guarantees 50+ tickets. I try my luck to get a seat for the Sunday storm this way.
for my regular tournaments like the big or hot one, i Play the 6 Player SNG with 2 seats guaranteed and the 16 Player SNG 2x shoot-out with 2 seats

i hate satelites , for example now on unibet all the freerolls have unibet open tickets , what a bummer , even the vip booster and casinorg who was cash all this time , and now cardschat centroll have unibet open tickets . this tickets not worth the time to play for
I've just qualified for unibet Malta through satellites. I hadn't really liked them too much before this year but I qualified for the Newcastle leg of the Unibet UK Tour and now Malta for a combined sum of tuppence ha'penny, three buttons and a piece of old string. I'd highly recommend them. There are plenty of sats with 4, 5 or 6 tickets. :)

You are missing a lot of give you the chance to qualify for major tournaments at a cost completely under and sometimes free and to participate for real money without investing money in many cases ... for players who love this game with limited financial resources is very advantageous ...

If you have a small bankroll and want to play in a big tournament with good prizes, then you should try your luck on satellites. I personally do not really like satellites that give few tickets.

If the buy in is sth I can afford according to my Bankroll I will play , especially during big events (scoop , etc) . I like the sats that have many guaranteed tickets (50 or more) , I hate sats with one or 5 tickets , very bingo or difficult for me . But if sb is skilled , sats can be profitable I guess , even with less tickets guaranteed .

I think that satellites are a necessary thing in poker. Usually these are fast turbo or hyper-turbo tournaments which have their own strategy which differs from the game in tournaments !!!
