Okay, I have a question regarding satellites. At what point does ICM start to dominate our decision making? I just busted on a satellite as one of the top 5 stacks w/23 players left (of ~80) and top 6 got paid (6th 2100 fpp, 5th+ 3k seat to turbo takedown).

Basically I ran Kings into the Aces of one of the 4 bigger stacks. Was only 10th hand with villain and I'd seen him 3bet once already, plus I had been active. In a standard event this seems like a no-brainer shove, should I be evaluating differently in a satellite (even pretty far from ITM still?)

Not that far from money.

If you two were clear chip leaders with 8 left and 6 paid then that's a different matter, for example.

I got my biggest MTT cash last night. I finished 3rd in a $2 tournament for around $85. Was pleased as it almost doubled my balance on full tilt. I became shortstacked 3 handed and went all-in with AKs and got called by JJ and lost. I think ill play a few more of these $2 MTTs

Ouch! Still has to make you feel good about playing that well to get into a spot like that. Just takes time to run well enough to take one of these down. But you have to start by putting yourself in these positions. Try not to tilt and take down the next one!

That hurts. Cold decks happen though, just take away some good learnin' from the MTT and call it a win.

random side note: playing freezeouts and rebuy tourneys at the same time can get kind of dangerous. Crazy loose/donkey rebuy period play is not a good idea to carry over to a standard tight tourney :D

W00t! Just won a seat in the Jan. 30th Turbo Takedown. I think it cost me something like 900 FPP in total playing those 75+R satellites. Should be fun to play...I imagine it will be hugely reg infested though

For anyone who has like 1200-1500 fpps and wants to try the takedown I highly recommend the aforementioned satellite. You play loose/crazy during the rebuy period and TAG-y after. Treat the end tables more like a SNG with major ICM implications come final table time. Here's the wonderful part, many people are buying into the tournament with only 200-500 FPPs in their account, so if they bust in the rebuy period they can't afford to rebuy. Today's tournament had 73 entrants and only 38-40 people were left when rebuys were over, yesterday it was 100 entrants with 44 left post-rebuy. Top 5 got seats and 6th was 900 fpp today, yesterday was top 6 and 2100 to 7th.

So...during the rebuy period just get a big stack early then relax/sit-out (~10-14k chips is a good time to really tighten up) and just know you'll have a 3-5 table SnG to money in when the first hour is up :D.

edit: I should mention the Turbo Takedown is a pokerstars thing.

So, I recently got a bunch of MTT videos made by BeLOWaBOVe. They're really fun and informative. I've seen a lot of interesting things you can do with a big stack to create +EV spots that I had never thought of or was too chicken to try out.

Of course...this has lead to some significant spew in a few tournaments since then. There's always a learning phase :p

Anyway, the videos are old (2006) but quite good. BeLOWaBOVe is pretty honest about his own moves, calling himself out for mistakes as he reviews his sessions and whatnot. He also has a very dry sense of humor regarding Pokerstars which is fun. "And here we have a standard race on Pokerstars, the pocket 7's against 45 suited" :D

Sat nite so I'm heading to the poker club for the $40+$5+$2 bounty tournament and then the cash table afterwards. Tomorrow is a $50+$5 deep stack tournament also. Next weekend is the club's Super Bowl party which brings out loads of fishes. Then the next Sunday is a $100+$5 extra deep stack + longer levels tournament. Live play has cut down my online play a lot.

Tonight I go play MTG. It's the pre-release for the new set! (super geek, I know. damn proud of it, too!) Tomorrow will feature a few low stakes MTTs: the $3R/60k, $11/40k and $11 1/4mil. A good morning run that all load within 1.5 hours. I think there's a nice $11/25k that loads 30minutes after that block too. All very juicy on sundays!

Also the Turbo Takedown this weekend as well, should be a fun Sunday :D

@Jilly - what are the field sizes on the deep-stack tourneys and how long do they seem to take?

@Jilly - what are the field sizes on the deep-stack tourneys and how long do they seem to take?

$47 has 8550 stack/ 15 blinds, $50 has 15500 stack/ 15 min blinds, $100 has 20K stack/ 30 min blinds. The $47 usually runs about 5 hours, the $50 about 8 hours and the $100 about 12 hours.

Urgh, just final tabled the $2k guarantee on cubed and lost A3 to KQ 5handed for way more than average stack and $2.3k up top.

Pretty happy with the cash as it was but still gutting for him to hit the gutterball on river (see what I did there)!

There were 5.5k mate, but AFS is a lot smaller...I play a lot of the non-guarantees on FTP and they vary between 100-400.
