In a live deep stack event at my local casino I have been getting some cards early. I’ve been dealt JJ twice, AA, KK, and even QQ before the first hour and I had to fold every single time. Deep stack events are tricky anyway but especially with in-experienced and weak players. On two of the above hands, my opponent did show a hand that was superior, a straight once, and two pair on another, as for the others, I guess I will never know but the boards were the worst you could possible imagine given the circumstances.

Anyway, I know I was playing correctly and being patient. Nonetheless it had an effect on me. The blinds are 200 & 400 and I still have around 30K. About 1 hour later I’m dealt AA from UTG +1 and raise to 1200 as I normally do. The villain, two seats to my left, min-raises me and I just jam the pot for my whole 30K stack – he calls with 10 10 and makes a straight through the Jack.

Not that I made the incorrect play (when these donks actually raise you they have no intention of folding), but what I did was clearly related to what had been occurring in the game, and I literally said screw it. Tilted? I don’t know, if I was tilted I guess it would be best to do it with AA huh? Still with this opponent I would have lost the hand anyway – he didn’t make the straight until the river and my chips would have been in by then (flop 789, turn 3, river J). Still, did I tilt this one away? I can only fold premiums a few times before I lose it. Just a personal preference but I really hate getting cards early in tournaments.
