tight at the start

Freerolls have to be played a little tight at the beginning, because they can make you a bad bet 7 and 2 off and they will lower your morale, always try to make a value bet because they will pay you with anything medium pairs 2 and 2, and you will not you get in trouble with all in

The last part of your first post asks, "... at what stakes do donkeys start to fade out???"
Why do you want the donkeys out? They are the biggest source of income for good players.
Imagine you are in a casino (post quarantine) and the poker room host says, "We have two seats open. One at table 7, with Phil H, Daniel, Doyle, Antonio, Johnny C, Chris, TJ, Phil I, and Men. There is also a seat at table 13 with a bunch of donkeys. Which seat would you like?"
If you are interested in winning, which seat do you take - Table 7 or 13?

I think in low stakes we've some random players like in freerolls. Nevertheless, we can find a lot of quite good players on low stakes mtt's, more than in freerolls.

At what stakes do the donkeys fade out. Well the higher you go the less you will find them but I played in a live WPT main event last year and same a few players playing like it was a free roll.

But for online, I dont know when you really lose them but I see them at the $5.00 levels I play and much to my surprise all the time.

If you are playing in freerolls, you should expect and be prepared for everything ( from the the worst calls and bets to the luckiest and unreal bad beats). It is very important what kind of freeroll you are playing - if it is turbo freeroll, you will see for sure a lot of all-ins in the beginning and have to be prepared that the luck will be the crucial thing here in this tournament.
For example, as you give in 5$ tournament the plays will be not the same as the freerolls, but there you can see the same things, too. As from the games I have played, I have recognised that as much as the blinds are slower, the players are playing more serious.
As an advice I can give you, if you want to see very serious and tight plays, you should enter tournament with very big buy-ins (more than 50$) ,but have in mind that there the players are well prepared and with high experience. Another thing you should think about is the money - have you played sometime tournaments with so big buy-ins. :)

Freerolls and tournys with 0,5$ or 1$ are played by quiet different people.
Every 0.3 - 0.5 $ of buy-in changes background completely, so it's umpossible to compare(

If You can play with 3-5 $ buy in and Can win - play, but if not - just go with 0.5 - 2 $ and learn to play with these players.

They are stronger then in freerolls are)

If you are tired of moving at low stakes, then know that MTT is a very dispersive type of poker (of course, less than back, but you don’t have to play there for several hours) and donkeys are also available at very high stakes !!!!
