Today, I entered the 2 PM, BetOnLine Freeroll ($100).
$10.00 for the top 10 finishers.
There were 512 entries in the tournament.
Starting Stack was $5000---Starting Blinds $25/$50—blind Update every 8 min.
After 2 hours—I was 12th out of 65
After 3 hours –I was 28th out of 35---with about $28,000 left,
After 3 ½ hours I was 13th out of 24—with $55,000 left.---blinds were $2500/$5000
Last hand
Dealt 9D,10C BET - $5000 –BB called
FLOP 3S,7D,10H—Bet $10,000---( Pair of 10’s top pair) villain called
TURN 10D---( 10’s SET) Bet $20,000 —villain called
RIVER---2C----went ALL-in ( $20,000 left)---villain called and WON—he had 10S/JH
Villain won J,10,10,10,7
Hero lost 10,10,10,9,7
So I came in 24th out of 512---but won no money.
I thought I did pretty good for being pretty new to this game. but didn't make my $2.50/hr lol--but had alot of fun.
Any comments on how I played the last hand. On hindsight, I think I played the hand right—maybe I shouldn’t have played the hand at all, but I was BB the next hand and my stack was getting low 10 BB.

With 9D,10C you should have done one of two things.

  1. Raise to put pressure on the BB by bluffing the BB that you had a better hand. 10J off-suit could be forced out of the hand by a strong decision in your part. If you're called after that fold. You don't have a strong enough hand to continue. you were lucky to get three of a kind tens in the first place.
  2. Fold due to your weak hand.

I understand your point. For me it was desperation time--I needed to get in the top 10 to make money in the tournament. If I hit that hand, I would have been there. Oh well Live and Learn

Thank you for posting.
Congrats on your first freeroll

A few points you will learn with experience

You had 11bb's so it was not yet desperation time in these freerolls, players will blind down to 6 or less trying to make the money.
When we are desperate we want to play Ax Kx Qx hands not T9 we need that big card
We would never limp with an 11bb stack
As you felt desperate to play there is only 1 choice with T9 shove to win the blinds preflop.

Hope this helps
