*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to Maxwell Hall [Ad 9c]
scooby1055: raises 696 to 896 and is all-in
McKenzie425: folds
A.Babyakin: folds
Katzenfrau: folds
cd161: folds
pepeatm: folds
Maxwell Hall: raises 259 to 1155 and is all-in

Should have I chosen a better spot than this? This play is +EV but perhaps I should have pushed on the cut off since there would be more EV due to fold equity? Opinions?

I never really know what to do in this scenarios; in this particular one though I think push was the only move due to being incredibly short stacked, I can't fold and rely on everyone folding the next round. What if I had a M of 5 instead? Or how about 7? Would that still be a mandatory push spot? Are there any articles/books about this concept?

Hmmm, I am about to make a "what do I do here" post, I know what you mean.:)
Whats your read on scooby, or the blinds? If scooby is capable of going all in here with a hand you dominate, and the blinds are not ultra aggresive, it could be an easy shove, but scooby is IP so he doesent need to go all in here, although he is certainly SS enough. The blinds can afford to avoid the confrontation, if they play that way. You can very possibly isolate scooby here, so it deeply depends on your thoughts about his range here.

You do not have many opportunities to wait for a better hand, and as I mentioned above, this is often a question I have as well.

what tourney type is this?

18 man sng? how far away from the money?

what do you think his UTG shoving range would be? loose or tight?

This is a super fold, when we're on the short stack, we need to be the first one into the pot so we have some fold equity, here you're guaranteed a showdown, and your hand is behind his range. So I'd fold and wait for a better spot.

180 MTT, it was the second to last table, so 9 positions away from the money. I thought my range was ahead of his; I've been saying that play been made with K high, and half decent hand; I think they get scared of the blinds so they decide to move then and there with any highish card, most of the time anyway; I hadn't had any reads on this particular player though

this is actually close, i think. i agree with you that guys at these levels feel they 'have' to shove as the blinds are about to hit them, so that opens their range up a lot. now, if hes shoving lots of broadway type hands, any pair, any ace, probably can include some j9s stuff as well, i think ill lean towards a svhoe, but it's super close i think. A9 s is a shove, A10 is a shove, A9 off may be too weak? i still like shoving. gives us a shot at the higher payouts.

I think in this particular example I needed to shove, since I was so incredibly short stacked; however, what if I and all my opponents had double the amount of chips, except the original pusher; would this still be a +EV spot knowing that A9 is most likely ahead of his range.

I think that it would be +EV; however, if I folded that hand I might have a better +EV spot since I'd have a worst hand but some fold equity, assuming that no one raises

I say fold. Your not beating an utg range you have no fold equity. I would fold and might push all in blind next hand so we don't get blinded out
