This is relatively late in the NL Hold'em tourney and here is a hand I am stumped on.

I have ~50k he has ~40k

Blinds are 400/800 50ante

He is before me, raises to 2k

With JJ I re raise to 4k

He Re raises to 8800

I call

Flop comes 6 5 8

He bets 10k

What did he have?

I folded in confusion.

Not that it is a huge difference but I learned after another hour or so of play that the hand was not near the end but somewhere midstream :)

Re-raise to something like 6-8K pre-flop, fold to any further action. The way its played out, it looks like an overpair, good fold.

Im not too fond of this hand.

Putting in 8000 preflop with jj to fold to a 10,000 ragged flop bet.

I agree alan, I didn't like it either, thats why I am trying to see if I missed something.

Should I have folded on his re raise preflop?

Or did he just bluff the hell out of me.

Yeah its a confusing hand. I probably wouldnt have wanted to get suckered out of the tourney by qq-aa either.

Have you seen him re-raise before?

I would say he had probably QQ, so it was probably a wise fold. I probably would have let him have it had it been me. I hate playing jacks to begin with as they always seem to screw me over.

Not sure what he had, but a likely pair that had you beat.

The guy had just got moved to the table recently so I didn't really have a read on him. Guess its just one of those hands.

With the re-re-raise preflop to 8800 you have to be willing to go all in at that point. You know he's not going to check to you on the flop, no matter what comes down, so if you're not willing to commit your stack at that point just fold. I think you made a good laydown to KK, QQ, or AA. Just keep in mind most of the time you're not going to get past the flop without commiting a large amount of chips at that point.

Haha this looks so much like AA/KK with all the small raises.

Reraise more first time around preflop (where you minraised to 4k), then you can pretty safely fold if he comes back over the top or if called you can play a flop in position.
