Final table at my local casino. Top 5 paid with 8 players remaining. Blinds of 2000/4000. Average stack is 30000.

Hero is dealth AKo

UTG (25,000 chips) calls.
Hero (22,000 chips) - ?

Is this an automatic shove? I know I'm short stacked, but so is everyone else. The UTG call is highly suspect given his stack, and there's 6 more players to act after.

Pretty suspect but not enough to warrant a fold here imo without a very strong read. Readless (I assume since you didn't mention any), I shove all day.

You're m is 3.6, so definetly shove. With an M this low you could shove with much weaker hands than this.

super standard shove. blinds are way too high, so you could easily get blinded out before a better situation presents itself. besides, you will probably be ahead / at least flipping a ton of the time seeing as how this is live and players are generally pretty bad.

i want some beer.

Shove shove shove :)

UTG might be trying to slow-play a monster, but often this can be someone with a marginal hand and you can either push them off or double through them if they're dumb enough to call you. AA / KK are possible, but I think you see low-mid pocket pairs a lot more often, or maybe even a couple of paint cards. Factor in the times they (and the rest of the table) just fold to you and I think the shove is +EV.

Good :)

I did shove and it folded to him. He called and turned over TT which held up. Only fair really as I'd already doubled up through him 10 hands ago with QQ vs his AK :)

Nice play. This is exactly the kind of situation you face in tourneys all of the time when you go deep and you can't win them without shoving here....the results are irrellevant...AK has huge showdown value and is only really worried about AA as you still have somewhere in the range of 25-30% equity a/g KK.
