Thoughts on the hand below: Final table, top five places pay. Villan has agressively raised
about half of the hands since coming to the final table (6 hands or so). Most folded preflop so
I really have no idea what kind of hands he/she is raising with. What are your thoughts on where we go
from here

Push without a second thought. You're 75% against 2 random cards, and you don't have enough chips to float to the money anyhow.

Looks like a position raise/blind steal. Reraise all-in and expect to get called 50% of the time. Your M is really low anyway and this looks like a good time to get it all in the middle. I think you would be in good shape especially if the villian has been playing a lot of hands here.

If I re-raise to 2400 that leaves me with 600 and change behind....which should be a push? Or is my thinking muddled on that?

I don't believe that response was 100% serious :)

Maybe it was a little tongue in cheek, but you never know. I just wasn't sure if there was a reason to leave a little behind........like maybe the original raiser
looks at the not all in raise as a sign of weakness and calls.

I shove this all day long.

Our M is 3.5, we'll need some chips if we intend on cashing, and it's doubtful we're gonna get a more perfect situation than this. Occasionally villain will wake up with a hand here, but I'd expect to be a coinflip at worst if called.

Actual hand histories, Hand was from the final table of our CC $3 +$100.00 added tournament.
I really thought it was the right play, just wanted some other viewpoints beside my own.
Still lost the hand as it ran into pocket Queens, but under
the circumstances I thought I got my money in good, just bad results. Anyway it happens.

LOL @ Kenzie = the Villain.

It didn't matter what you both had, Kenzie would have won. The poker gods wouldn't have it any other way, based on my experiences in that spot ;)

But yes, I agree. Good play, bad result.

If he is known to steal then surely push. If he is a tight player or you arent sure, you could just call and see how he acts after the flop. If you really are bothered that it is near the bubble and think he has a monster, I see no shame in folding.

Edit: Didnt even see your reply at first. Well see that sucks, but that is the reason why I am never as inclined to get all of my money in the middle as some people. Now if you had him covered, all day everyday. When I am covered, I find it alot harder to just shove with 1010 or JJ.

In that spot against Kenzie or in that spot in general? This was my first time playing against him.

My thinking was that surely he didn't have another monster after the previous few hands....but in retrospect there is no card memory in poker so he is just as likely to have good cards this hand as last. So maybe this close to bubble and with a smaller stack at the table I should have played it different. I do see your point about stack sizes however. ....so much to learn and so little time....lol

I meant against Kenzie in particular, though admittedly I was just teasing a little - most of the times I have gotten all of the chips in against him the luck has been on his side. :)

The key point in your situation is that you are the shortest stack with 4 more players to the money. Your primary objective is finding a hand or situation that warrants a shove - you are now in a "push or fold" mode (generally until you have at least 15xBB) because you will be pot committed if you put in any raise, so you might as well use some fold equity and try to limit the field or pick up the blinds.

With less than 10xBB left in my stack I'm looking to be all-in with any pair (no matter what action is before me). I'm also probably shoving with any 2 cards that are J or above and will seriously consider doing the same with suited connectors 7 and above if I am opening the pot (depending on the stacks that are behind me).

Cashing when you are this short will require getting aggressive and/or lucky, just playing solid poker is probably not going to get you there unless you can build your stack back up.

Push = reraise
Shove = all in.

Shove this. You cant push it, you don't have enough chips.

i think calling here or reraising is the wrong move. his raise is a third of your stack and a standard reraise is two thirds. i'm shoving this! with your stack, insta shove. the 1200 plus the blinds would be a pretty big boost for you. not to mention you probably have the best of it ATM.

^^^^^^^^^^^^. As you said, you didn't have enough information to know if I'm just a donkey, or a lucky donkey, with your chip stack you have to play that hand.
