*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to HartAttack31 [Jc 5c]
wacbulldog11 calls 500

UTG call from the bigstack, this narrows his range a fair bit assuming no reads.

ZaDom folds
Ratzerueb folds
AIRLINEHORSE folds
eddyjay folds
allthewayguy calls 500
phatview folds
LeKnave calls 250
HartAttack31 checks
*** FLOP *** [5h 8d 8c]
LeKnave checks
HartAttack31 bets 500

I like betting at paired boards but it needs to be two thirds of the pot or more to get rid of Ax, KQ etc and with the low flop you are not shaking off 66, 77, 88, 99, TT which are all possible. You don't want to see anymore cards here, your own hand is not going to be strong enough come the river and you are only likely to get worse with each card while your opponent (utg limp) is likely to improve.

Either check-fold or bet hard here and fold to a reraise.

wacbulldog11 calls 500

He's either drawing to overcards in the face of your weak bet or he's slowplaying. He's no need to reraise with an 8, the only thing you can start to rule out if he's decent is 99 and 77.

allthewayguy folds
LeKnave folds
*** TURN *** [5h 8d 8c] [Ts]
HartAttack31 bets 500

This solves nothing other than juicing the pot for him or giving him odds to keep going with KQ, Ax etc

wacbulldog11: careful hart lol
wacbulldog11 calls 500

You now have no idea what he has, almost anything is possible from K high to a full house.

*** RIVER *** [5h 8d 8c Ts] Q♥
HartAttack31: lol
HartAttack31 checks

May as well

wacbulldog11 bets 2,000

You are now paying for weak betting, he's either bluffing in response to your weakness, hit his queen or he's been slowplaying A8 or TT. Either way fold and take your medicine.

HartAttack31 has 15 seconds left to act
HartAttack31: i misplayed that awfully

The first step to changing a problem is acknowledging it :)

I like the bet on the flop but I would have stopped there. You are most likely getting good value seeing as Wac is probably holding 2 overs. However I would have tried to check it down on the turn and river (Especially seeing what cards hit). The problem is after the flop bet you have 5 BB left. Instead of investing any more on that hand I would prefer to let the button pass and make a positional all in move. At this point in the tourny with your chip stack you should be thinking about doubling up.

well since nobody else responds, I did call his bet, seemed fishy after what he said, I shoulda went all in if I was callin but I didnt, I called and he flipped over a-j o/s to give me the hand. After that I took 31st in the tourney, not bad but my 77 got beat by 99, nothin i could do.

he has 5k left with bb of 500 that would be 10 bb see 500 divided by 5k is 10.

Ooooo, that's a pretty nasty leak you've got there my friend. You're going to lose a lot of big pots making calls like that.

Take it down on the flop or fold it and move on :)
