My table is quite conservative, this is the hand in question, everybody checked through flop - took them about a second (so not instant nor did they put much though in to it), my positioning was good, so I threw out a 100 bet.
I was on a straight draw (as you can obviously see :)), and hit it on the turn, so checked, hoping the remaining opponents would think I made a weak attempt to take the pot on the flop!

If you were playing against me here, what hand would you have put me on?
And please tell me whether it was played outright atrociously or not.

For the record though, I wouldn't usually chase a straight!

I don't see a problem with this play. Why wouldn't you bet your up/down straight draw? The players in front of you have checked, and the button is left to act. A bet will likely take down the pot and a caller is not necessarily unwelcome. The only problem with betting your draw is if someone raises or check/raises you for a large chunk of chips.

I'm guessing someone called you a donkey or a chaser after the play? That's the only reason I can see to pose that question. If so, just ignore it... chasers do not bet at their draws... they chase them (ie - check/calling all the way down).

And just a suggestion - try a pot sized bet on the flop (or around 200). It would have served you better here. It doesn't seem as weak, and would define the hands of the callers a little better. Remember, one reason to bet at draws is to take it down right there, and if called you have disguised your hand (sometimes).

I bet the turn. If someone has an ace, you'll get paid well when you bet again on the river.
