Maybe he was speaking in German and meant to be saying, "nein, nein, nein, etc.

I thought it was funny, as all our cards were exposed preflop yet he kept yelling for a nine to hit.

Random curious fact: Chinese internet slang for saying "good bye" is "88". The number 8, in Chinese, is pronounced as "bah" (or "buh"), so "8 8" is "bah bah" or "b'bye."

That is all.

He should have been hoping for a 7.... maybe if he'd got it, he'd have won!

Another Random curious fact: Neo-Nazi and White Supremacist groups use the numbers 88 as a code-word for "Heil Hitler". The 8th letter of the alphabet happens to be the letter "H", hence "88" or "HH".

Hopefully those players who you saw saying 88 were Chinese

I didn't see anyone saying 88, actually, I was told this by a Chinese guy (as a random curious fact). I've known about the neo-nazi slang thing for awhile, there was a big fuss in sweden a year or so ago, about the ice cream called "the 88". It's been around since before I was a kid (so for well over 25 years) but last year some group decided to get a movement going for cancelling or renaming the ice cream. They didn't succeed.

I mused at the time about the fact that there is an icecream that is called "the sandwich," which is a three layer thing with chocolate, vanilla ice cream and chocolate. Brown, white, brown. Sandwich. I wonder why they didn't go after that brand.
