A Hand from last nights Birthday Tourney - folding KK preflop

Yes i know if i had called i would have won this pot, but that would have been down to the luck of the flop :) - I could also have not hit a K and gone from a decent stack to out of the tourney

I was glad more that i reacted to my gut feeling and thoughts and was right :)

I don't think I could have done that. Pop Dog was so short that Trent's Momms calling ranges could have included many hands that you could beat. Your min raise could have meant anything to her. I would have interpreted her all-in as an isolation bet.
And I would have been wrong.
Nice laydown.

On previous hands i noticed that any strong raises by Trents Momm were with larger hands and i had purposly raised to put popdog to the choice of all-in or fold crippled.

So when when faced all-in myself (plus gut feeling) i knew i could be in trouble :)

Great fold; but I'm with 4dogs here. I'd go all-in with KK every time.

Why did you mini-reraise with pocket kings? Going all in preflop would probably be the best move here due to raising action before and after you. Why is this a good laydown?

I would have called with the kings. No matter what you would have done you would have been called by the aces and KK is a very strong hand. I dunno though if your gut feeling told you otherwise than you should always follow that. In the long run you will make more

Kudos on the laydown. Anyone here saying that you should have gone all in are focusing too much on the results of the hand IMO.

I guarantee I wouldn't have been able to do it. Many times I get the same gut feeling based on the way someone's been playing, and I still go all in with my KK here every time. The opp shows AA and I'm kicking myself for not going with my gut. Now and then the K comes up and you get lucky, as it did here, but the majority of the time you're crippled.

Very nice read and lay.

Interesting to read the differing views on my fold.

As i said i made a raise enough to make the short-stack either fold there and then - but be crippled or be forced all-in, in which case i of course would have instantly called.

But when i get an all-in that is big enough to knock me out as well - gut feeling and history told me i could well have been in trouble and so i was :)

Quite often if i feel im losing a hand i find im right - but of course you dont always believe it until its too late lol :D

imo
mucking KK preflop is never a good idea.
There is only ONE hand that is better then you. So everytime you get pocket KK you think that the guy raising had pocket AA?
You have monster cards play them and let the chips fall where they may.
I rather loss with my KK to AA then to have a donkey call with 64 suited and flop a straight.

dude y didnt you rase a good amout to get ppl pot commited then gone all in but YOU FOLDED POKET Ks thats un head off ???

You need to learn how to play a little better. Laying down Pkt Ks is part of the game. There are just sometimes you have to do it . Just the same as laying down pkt As on the flop.

very nice read you had, and good to see you trust your reads. i've come close to folding KK twice before and both times i went against my read only to find myself up against AA and i did bust. to play these games you have to follow your reads

i would have to say folding KK is a hard decision, but it was a good read. Most players do go all in pre-flop if they have a high pair on them. i would've called, because the probabily of getting an ace is 1 and 244 (something like that)

you had the correct read on MOM so don't second guess yourself just because a flop would've gone your way

how many times have you regretted folding 72 when the flop comes 772?

Wow! Great read. I personally would have had my entire stack in their if I lose to rockets then so be it. Best hand won!

I'm not crazy about your reraise here though, make it $800-$1,000 to go. No fancy min raises, they can kill you if you're not careful. A huge range of hands will call you here.

You would have won a monster. Can't criticize your play though, your read was dead on.
