My notes tell me from past games that the guy on the button always raises on the button and the other guy always raises pot with A2xx

What would your move be here...

Fold preflop, your low potential sucks, as does your position. As played, you probably should call down with the 2nd nuts without a real read. Raising is pretty pointless on that board.

I am not a mathematician so please be warned.

These are the kinds of (non nuts) hands in O8 that drive you crazy.

I guess there are five kinds of hands to look at for the opponent:
1- AXh- you are screwed
2- XXh(not Ah)- happy, happy, joy, joy
3- 98h- extremely unlikely
4- trips- semi-good news but are you willing to risk it all during the first hand (I would think its more like if the board had an A or K based on preflop action)
5- Air- guy may be saying this bet will scare all non nuts hands out- he may have like a AA25

my guess is either 4 or 5- why would he bet that big with 1,2 or 3

Also one must factor the import of the $5.50 and playing poker. Are you going to play another tourney in the next day or so, is $5.50 1/2 your roll or 1/100th of your roll.

For me its a call.

regards

I guess this is exactly my thought pattern. I alo agree with c9h13no3 about preflop but hindsight is a great thing ;)

Here is how it played out...

I have just look back at my starting hand. I have 3 wheel cards and they are also double suited - one Ace high, one K high.

I don`t think this is a fold everytime. This is one of those hands u end up pricing yourself into by mistake :D

This is a hand I would not have posted if I had won.

You do have 3 wheel cards, but you have almost no nut low potential.

In order for you to have a nut low draw, you need a 2 and a 3 to hit on the flop. This is a speculative hand, and you should really only be playing it in late position, preferably with initiative heads up against the blinds or in a large 5-6 way flop. This isn't like A23 or A34, where its much easier to make a nut low draw with counterfeit protection.

Unfortunatly I read the results before I write this.

Being that it is the first hand of this tourney, I fold preflop here. the limp was ok, but once that amount of pressure is exerted, it just isn't worth it. You called and got the worst possible flop. Too bad.

You knew the Axh was possible, all your lows out the window, and were banking on the 2nd nut flush being good.

It is far better to muck a 'would have been' winning hand than to chase 'all in' on the very first hand of a tourney.

Notice I put in bold FIRST HAND OF TOURNEY! Last thing any of us wants is the First Hand of Tourney Blues.

I fold. let some others knock each other down. Your 4 cards just arent working together that well.

I`m probably the opposite. I would prefer to go out early, even the first hand, with the chance to double up, rather fold the 2nd nuts.

I know this is a choice thing, but playing online u can move on to the next game very quickly.

I am still not saying it was the correct play by me preflop. This is one of those, what I call "falling off a cliff" hand. I limped - ok. I then called a raise which was not the best move but I fel I`m a good enough player to fold if I miss the flop.

However, the only hand that beats me after the flop is Axh/ 89h.

So, what I`m saying is, the preflop play was poor, but if u r going to fold that hand on the flop early in a MTT, u should give up playing poker.

It is the equivelent to folding KK in the first hand of a NLHE game `cause the other guy that u don`t have a read on might have AA.

Just my opinion.

The "cliff" reference. What I mean is sometimes u enter a hand that u wish u had not and find yourself in a situation where u are priced in all the way so u can`t fold - like jumping off a cliff, once u jump u ain`t going back :D
