I think I played this hand correctly until I saw the re-raise after the flop. I put him on AK or KQ, obviously giving the guy far to much credit - but I also think I should have been alarmed by the raise up to $4,000 and ducked out of the hand and dropped the AA (not always easy to do though).

Any feedback for me?

I know this is a freeroll but I had my eyes set on doubling up with the pocket rockets and am still peeved at how this hand developed.

It's a freeroll, this is utterly standard, the average freerolling villain is reraising the flop with anything from a set to crap like A7. Don't be influenced by the results.

you seem to have already done your analysis - as you say the 4k raise could have been a clue - but I always find 2 pair hard to spot and on a board like that ... impossible? I'd have suspected trips before 2 pair on that flop.

Perhaps the only other thing to consider is going all in pre-flop. Only in freerolls though.

AA is looking very good preflop but after the flop you often have a problem to lay it down at this hand it is very hard to put him on K7 i would think he has maybe a set or AK but also 67s

What went wrong was the poker gods, for whatever reason, decided to favor a ridiculous play.

As you know, in a freeroll an unusually large bet indicates (1) a silly bluff; (2) the nuts; (3) anything inbetween; or (4) opponent just felt like betting, having nothing to do with his hand, the board, or his opponents.

Many freerollers have no concept of the game, and are not trying to learn. So it is sometimes VERY difficult to correctly asses their range of hands. C'mon---calling your preflop raise with king seven?

In the beginning stages of a freeroll I will often allow a huge bet to get me off a hand. I really do want to survive.

In the later stages, a lot of the early round silliness has ended, and the play is better.

Good luck and enjoy yourself.

When I get AA I don't think "Yay! I am going to double up!" but "Damn. Somebody is going to suck out on me." If I actually double up I am pleasently surprised.

AA is a good hand before the flop, but after the flop you need to knows how to play it post-flop. I thinks the 4,000 raise should have cued you in that he had at least two pair, b/c i mean a raise and a re-raise indicates real strength, in which case you were a substantial underdog and should have folded.

You played it correctly if this was a standard cash tourney, but as it has been mentioned, It's a freeroll and the donkey's, children and beginners will play ATC as long as they're suited.
DM pretty much summed it up with "Don't be results oriented"
