I was playing a home game last night, relatively low stakes tournament. down to final 3, i look down at [Ad] [Kd] on the button (meaning I'm under the gun pre-flop). I limped, so did the SB and the BB checked. Flop was [K 10 4 rainbow]. Not a bad flop for Mr.Slick, UTG checked and 2nd player bet out about 1/3 of the pot. Not wanting to scare anyone off, I smooth called. UTG folded, heads up now. Turn was a rag, [3d], He bet double what he bet on the flop, looking a bit desperate to me, I just called, my trap seemed to be working. River was the [8h], a fairly meaningless card, however this time he checked. I put in a bet about 3/4 the size of the pot and he came over the top with all his chips. After much thought and hesitation I made the call only to see him turn over [10c 8d]

Was I wrong in trying to extract maximum value out of this player or should I have made a bet at an earlier stage to try and squeeze him out?
