Simple question, simple answer?

The options I see:

1. direct Shove
2. Raise/call

U think of anything else? (Is there an argument for raise/fold, or is this in every situation just -ev?)

In my opinion, you played well, but certainly you did not have luck on the flop. Raise with such cards is required from such a position. Even when our BB re-raise, then we sometimes think it wants to bluff and pick us up the chips, but call in this situation is ok, and there is no mistake! GG

Your follow up questions are probably even better questions than the initial hand question. I agree that pocket 8's are a mandatory raise call off here even with no info against villain (and I definitely prefer raise/calling it off to just jamming).

But with the smaller pairs I agree there is definitely a lot of merit in just jamming to elicit more folds. I have definitely segmented my range like this in the past and against weaker opponents. I think in tougher lineups we'd run into problems segmenting our range that way but in this buyin size I think it's going to be fine.

For me the line would probably be 55 or 66 where I just start open jamming instead of raise/calling it off.

Edit: And to be clear, I'd raise/call off 66+ and be open jamming 22-55. So there would be no pocket pairs in my range that I'm raise/folding.
