Villian Stats (VPIP/PFR/AF): 23/8/1

Hello folks,

I just played and finished a MTT 26th out of 800+ already in the money. I am not sure, if I played my hand the most optimal way.

The pot was 38,500 and my stack 183,722. I had no information about his BB defend range. Just his stats VPiP 23 / PFR 8. I decided to shove my K5s with 13 BBs left

Do you think a fold would be better? Folding seemed -EV for me with a suited K in blind vs blind. In my opinion there was just the opportunity to shove and at least steal the pot.

Thanks in advance for every comment!

Thomas

i'd probably just fold there, with 13bbs we still have a couple more orbits before we get too desperate and we'd probably get a better spot, if i had less than like 7or8 bigs it's a definite shove.

its a tough spot in fairness, i'd probably have shoved aswell but there's a definite argument for folding, considering the bb somewhat fishy stats and you're not under massive pressure stack wise, overall i think i'd still have shoved but its a difficult choice

Battle of the blinds, right?

For me, K5 is strong enough to steal the pot, suited or not.

It so happens he has an A so he calls.

Its the right spot because of your hand and your stack.

No regrets.

An opponent who is 23/8 is likely to have a fairly narrow calling range for half his stack, probably much closer to 8 than 23. So, best guess is that he'll fold about 90% of the time.

K5s is around a 2:1 dog vs a 10% range, so if you shove, you'll win the blinds about 90%, double up about 3.3% and be out about 6.7%. If you fold, you'll obviously give up your SB 100% of the time.

You can use these assumptions (or whatever else you feel is better) to work out which action has a better EV. You won't be able to do this precisely at the table, which is where how much you've studied shove ranges so as to be able to make decent decisions without the exact numbers it comes into play.

With 13 big blinds most players would have shoved there with king high. Just consider youself unlucky running into an ace and getting called. This was the opportunity to steal the blinds and most of us would have gone for it as well. Well played and don't be result oriented. Do the same next time.

Thank you guys. Running into an ace sometimes happens. But I felt good afterwards, even though I wasn't 100% sure. After reading your post I feel confirmed.

Thanks and good hands at the tables!

Shove is +Ev 100% but you can actually miniraise or limp with 13bb , it depends on the bb.
