Yeah, I would have made a pot sized bet there to see where he stood in this hand. Also, raise more preflop. A hand like JJ you want to raise big.

yea he easily could be holding Ax of diamonds, check/called the nut flush draw and then bet the top pair on the turn

If you are playing a 'small ball' style then you played it fine, you lost the minimum here and I agree that you are behind after the turn.

Compare this to what you might have lost using a 3.5xBB open and a 2/3rd pot CB, 350+575 and if the villain would have called your CB I can't see anyway for you to fire again on the turn with anything other than an AI.
