I was beat from the start. Should I have played this differently? This is early on in the game so no real reads.

i think you played it just about perfectly. 6 handed AJ is definitely worth a raise and your sizing after one limper is good. on the flop the pot is 450 or so, and there's a flush draw and a few possible high-card straight draws, so your bet is kind of small. but given that the stacks are fairly short and that bet already represents a good portion of the stacks, i don't think it's an unreasonable bet. i might've made it a little more (and lost more chips, but of course no way of knowing that at the time).

on the turn the main draw hit and the flop caller means you were often behind AT or AQ even without the draw hitting. you have a draw to the 3rd nuts which will be good more often than not. i check behind here too

on the river i don't hate a call and i don't hate a fold. i think it's close. you made an A-J high flush and the bet is so small that i think it could be a blocking bet with something like a 9h or maybe even lone A or T. the bet is small enough that it's hard not to call

I think it was played fine also. These marginal hands are tough. You didn't go overboard with the betting on the flop, I like the turn check, and the river bet you had to call.
