5 folds, Hero bets t480, 1 fold, BB raises to t1530 (All-In), Hero calls t1050

I'm pretty sure I made the right play here. It was folded to me on the button, I raised 3xBB with a pocket pair, LAG BB shipped. I was getting 2:1 on a call with a pocket pair, and had him covered, so it was a pretty easy call for me.

The only question I have is that another player at the table (not the one I busted) went on and on for about 10 minutes about how bad of a play that was and I overvalued a pair of 5s. Was going on about how I need to read a poker book because I will go broke playing like that. :ridinghor

shove pre, the stacks behind you are perfect resteal size and no you can't really fold getting 2-1. If your stacks are bigger raise to steal but make it 2.5x BB.

It depends mostly on your reads. If he's shoving any pair, any ace, and any broadway, our equity looks like this:

ProPokerTools Hold'em Simulation
3,626,659,872 trials (Exhaustive)
Hand |Pot equity |Wins |Ties
55|51.69% |1,856,508,624|36,449,064
22-AA, A2-AK, KT-KQ, QT-QJ, JT|48.31% |1,733,702,184|36,449,064

but if he's tighter, say 77+ and AT+, it's much closer:

ProPokerTools Hold'em Simulation
1,150,668,288 trials (Exhaustive)
Hand |Pot equity |Wins |Ties
55|38.75% |442,747,896|6,165,036
77-AA, AT-AK|61.25% |701,755,356|6,165,036

also, raise 2.5x instead of 3x, because 1) that works just as well to steal, 2) your c-bet on the flop becomes less expensive, and 3) you can fold to a shove if you need to.

I suppose a shove pre isn't horrible, you have 15bb in your stack, I like to wait for around 10-12bb personally, but yeah you could shove. That might even be better than raising since villain can't resteal.

I should have added that BB was 42/42. He showed A9o, but my 5s held up.

Also, after I posted, I checked on the chat box warrior. He's about -19% ROI over 1K games with $-1300 loss. Definitely not the one I should be taking tips from. Later, when we were 3 handed, he open shoved ATo into my JJ, caught an A on the river, then went back on the soapbox on how it was a stupid call. If my JJ held up, I would have had a huge chip lead going into HU.
