$2.20 NL HE: Defending my blind. Reraised the original raiser; too risky?

poker stars $2.00+$0.20 No Limit Hold'em Tournament - t10/t20 Blinds - 8 players
The Official 2+2 Hand Converter Powered By DeucesCracked.com

MP1: t1500 M = 50
MP2: t1490 M = 49.67
CO: t1610 M = 53.67
BTN: t1470 M = 49
SB: t1480 M = 49.33
Hero (BB): t1500 M = 50
UTG: t3030 M = 101
UTG+1: t1420 M = 47.33

Pre Flop: (t30) Hero is BB with T:diamond: 5:heart:
5 folds, BTN raises to t60, 1 fold, Hero raises to t160, BTN calls t100

Flop: (t330) 2:club: 9:heart: 3:club: (2 players)
Hero bets t220, BTN raises to t1310 all in, Hero folds

Was this too risky of a move? The small blind was sitting out so it seemed like a steal

raise larger preflop, your pricing the guy in, with a hand that is horrible, and plays horribly postflop. I wouldnt go any larger on the flop cbet either.

Someone else said the exact same thing to me; how much should I raise it too? I've been using the formula 3X their bet +1 for every caler, but that doesn't seem to be enough; I don't consider how much is in the pot so that is a leak in my game that I have just identified; should I just make how much I reraise to situation rather than use a general rule of thumb?

That isn't 3x. A 3x raise would be too 180, +1 as your OOP, would be to around 240. I'm happy with anything from 220-250.

Yeah, I must have not clicked it enough time, I usually do 3X; I like that idea though, go more if OOP

Id rather save moves like this for later blind rounds, here, it just doesnt really work out too well with risk/reward... And you only have 20 in the BB, it's probably not worth defending too much.

I can understand why you want to defend blinds, like, you want people to think that your bb isn't up for sale. but, in thses $2 donkaments, your going to be shifting tables often, so it's going to be hard to set up a dynamic. so for all those reasons, id just fold it.

Yeah, I should just get that "defend my blind" mentality out of my head until I move up a few levels I think, or when it is obvious to do so. Hey, I just read that you live in South Australia; what part do you live in if you don't mind me asking, since I live their too and we may have bumped into each other at a poker venue/casino

Your blind isnt worth defending this early. I'd usually wait until my stack size is optimal for 3-bet shoves. Combine this with the fact that any decent player is playing extremly tight in the early stages and this becomes a very standard and easy fold.

I'm new to the game in general, as you can probably tell by my plays.... Got a fair amount of live experience though, sort of, know a few tells that I can pick up on people :) 50BB? That does suck! Darn, gives the loose fish less to loose to my premiums :(
