$2.20 NL HE Deep Stacked: Late In a MTT 180 left of 4k

We were both about 80th in chips, typical 15 min blinds so no rush to go crazy here. Was about 4 hours into a MTT with 180 left of 4k people. Curious If I played this correctly and if you can put the villain on a hand here.

Any read on the opponent? What kinds of hands was opponent opening with in EP? What were opponents stats?

With a total lack of any reads or any other info, I'd have played this hand the same way.

But with reads there can be an argument to preflop 3-bet here and shove on the flop.

The villain was fairly new to the table, so I had no great reads on him. He had recently double up to the chip leader after flopping two pair with A-J. However in that hand he didn't shove on the flop, he bet each street big until finally going on in on the river winning with a bigger two pair.

I don't have any stat programs either

Had he raised the AJ preflop on that hand? This is quite tricky because we are OOP after the flop and so we would want to 3-bet but stack sizes are awkward as we are both big stacked compared to the blinds so if we get it in it is a lot on a coin flip and 3-betting commits us. I think a call is fine here but we can't just play fit or fold and are going to have to stop-go sometimes on flops that miss us.

As for the flop, we can donk bet lead but I think a check-raise is good like you did. Lets him fire with the part of his range that didn't hit the ace and he is likely to fire any pair, any smaller ace and stuff like KQ. Once we check-raise though we are commited and have to get it in. We may be beat but I think there is as many AQ, AJ and even another AK than there is 88, 99 and the case AA.

i dont agree with the 2 posters, i dont like 3 betting out of position here, u have to bet no matter what the flop is and if u miss and he has jacks ur stuck another bet, only thing id have done different is just check raise all in flop
