full tilt poker $10 + $1 No Limit Hold'em Tournament - t120/t240 Blinds - 2 players - View hand 1168414
DeucesCracked Poker Videos Hand History Converter

BTN/SB: t8049 33.54 BBs
Hero (BB): t5451 22.71 BBs

Pre Flop: (t360) Hero is BB with K 9
BTN/SB raises to t720, Hero raises to t2160, BTN/SB calls t1440

Flop: (t4320) T 4 6 (2 players)
Hero bets t3291 all in, BTN/SB calls t3291

Turn: (t10902) 5 (2 players - 1 is all in)

River: (t10902) 6 (2 players - 1 is all in)

Would it have just been better to shove preflop, or maybe just call or fold? Maybe I should have simply just called and seen what happened on the flop because I am out of position, but HU K9s is a pretty good hand (or so I believe). After reraising pre I couldnt check the flop and give him a chance to bet, in which I cannot call having missed, or to get a free card. So I figured I would just shove and hope that he missed.

yea think I am definitely sticking it all in pre. The 3 bet is for nearly half our stack so folding after that is pretty bad. Nash says we can shove or call a shove for 20ish blinds with K9s so just get it in pre.

We can't raise here, we're too short. It's either a shove or a fold, we can't really flat call here either. I highly doubt this is ever a shove.

Seriously, you would consider folding K9s HU to a 3bb raise?
I must be doing something wrong but I would ship it

to a raise which looks like he won't fold, against an opponant who is probably very bad, yes. Obviously reads change my decision, but we can't just go with a nash range here, we have a lot of time to work this guy out and push his leaks. Most players are folding the BB too much, so we can afford to fold in these spots and punish his tightness on the button.

To the Original Poster, Reads really will help us give you better info, i shouldn't have really replied as there is a severe lack of information here.

Of course if you are not as confidant you can find better spots in the future then i'd suggest taking up more of these opportunities, though i still doubt it's very profitable.

What??

K9s is a top 15% hand(i.e. a monster heads up). Also we do have FE here. I agree folding the BB too often is a problem for most(myself included) if we fold here we are that guy.

I will admit that it is not wise to generalize like this since villain read is important however until i see you are playing overly tight or loose heads up I am gonna play it like nash says.

I could be wrong here guys, and HU is probably now the weakest part of my game. Definitely going to look into this more, probably reply back in a few days. K9s is very strong yes, but again, this is pretty dependant on the other guys raising range. We don't really know if it's profitable if we don't know who we're up against, right?

Sure, but in a 10$ game in a vaccuum it's a shove every time.

If we were BTN/SB then obviously this would be an insta-shove. But this is a slightly more curious spot, and is very read dependent. He could be raising 50% and calling 35%, or raising 40% and calling 10%, raising 10% and calling 5%, or a million other things. Each of those is going to have a different result, so it's certainly not an auto-shove, although pushing could be very +EV. I don't really think there is a default range here (or at least I don't have enough experience to know), it's going to vary from villain to villain. How long have you guys been heads-up?
