Push him all in. No thinkin twice I don't think. If he called you with a pocket pair and flopped a set, well its just a mini-cooler. I just don't see someone gettin outta this position. He probably called you....A7 or possibly 8 7 suited, if he's very loose.

Standard stop and go by villain. He might have medium pocket pair, flush draw or nothing. By betting the pot on the flop (overbetting really) he's trying to get you to fold overpairs that you could have raised with (AK/AQ/AJ/KQ etc) while he is trying to represent a hand, either a pocket pair or a set.

In this situation I'm fairly certain you are ahead of villain and would be more concerned on how to get the rest of his chips. If stacks were deeper I would say float the flop to try to extract more money out of him. But the stacks are not deep and he essentially pot committed himself with that bet. Shove and expect a call by 88 or a flush draw. If he has 77, them's the breaks. (and I would be shocked by 22 or 44)

You will be up against a set a decent chunk of the time here, but even moreso you'll see smaller unimproved pocket pairs, flush draws, and maybe even A7 type hands. Ship it in.

I think we are very very very rarely up against a set here Chuck since why would they lead out for such a large amount after flopping a set??? I think middle pair is most likely. We are willingly pushing all in here whatever anyway

True. I suppose most of the hands posted here, no matter how great they look, end in disaster.

Anyhow... I think i've heard everything I needed to hear on this hand.

I just wanted to make sure I played it right. I haven't been playing for too long and a buddy who has been playing much longer than me said that he wouldn't have risked his tournament life in this spot. I think i'm starting to understand why he can never finish better than "barely in the money".

I'm okay with the outcome of this hand. As long as I played the hand properly, I'll brush it off as just one of those poker things. .

The entire hand:

This player had check raised me earlier so I knew he didn't have a set. He was trying to get me off my hand. It seemed obvious to me that he had a draw or top pair. I guessed he had :ah4::3h4:, or A7o.

All in

On that flop you would think your still ahead, maybe set but AA is looking good, I would move all in.

I just think these are the set up hands where neither of you are going to fold after the flop. him having the flush draw plus the 4's as an out. And you with the rockets and the board being open.

I guess it's up to me to take the contrarian view.

First, it's apparent that you've already invested quite a bit of time in this tournament. Your stack is pretty decent relative to the blinds. You've got the top pocket pair but since it doesn't improve after the flop, your AA has lost value. UTG+1's bet indicates that your AA may have lost a lot of value.

UTG+1 has a chip stack that would cripple you at these levels if he's actually got something.

My ego would tell me to push but I stopped following my ego because my ego ends up costing me a lot of money.

I could fold AA in this position and look for a better spot to invest my chips later. If UTG+1 becomes a madman (mad person?) there are plenty of other players at the table who can put him out of your misery.

The best part is that I can fold AA and nobody would know but me.
