It's only 4 more BBs for him and I want a hand like this to call me. I guess it's just bad luck. I have like 0 fold equity once he's opened for what is 1/3 of my stack but I went card dead and here we are with 9 A . I can't really blame him for calling. Need to learn some mental toughness for spots like this, I guess.

Maybe this thread belongs in the Bad Beats forum :ROFLMAO::LOL:

As you say, you have no fold equity, because he need less than 30% equity to call, and its difficult for any hand to not have that. You did get it in good here, and maybe this is ok, if his range is this wide. But with 6,2BB we should be looking for a spot to open jam rather than mess with a usually tight (although not this time) UTG range. So while I understand the frustration of being card dead, I think, this should usually be a fold and wait yet another hand for a better spot to make your stand.

His range was very wide and he was opening nearly every pot. I knew I was ahead of his range since he was opening so often. I don't think I could wait any longer and A9s was good enough to go with. I was really asking about calling a shove with 64s as the chip leader in this situation. If I was in his spot I would probably call also. Just unlucky, I guess. Next! :)

I agree with Fundiver in theory that we should be looking for a spot to open jam and not jam over when we are this short. However, I also think that unless you are on the stone cold bubble or some spot where ICM is coming into play that you cant make too large of a mistake with 6 BBs unless you are one of these nuts I see that open limps single digit BB stacks with 88 ish type hands. Outside of that jamming with 6 BBs isnt going to be too much of a mistake since we have to go sometime (again minus ICM spots) so I think here if you truly feel their range is wide (which it turned out to be) then jamming over here being this short is fine.

Villain's call btw is also fine since he needs to call only 4 more BBs to win the already existing pot of 10 ish BBs so getting 2.5 to 1 or in that area with what should be live cards that are suited with connection, that makes sense to me especially if it isnt risking a large chunk of your stack

If UTG is on a range wide enough to include 64s, then its completely fine to go with A9s for 6 bigs. The hand in rarely crushing anything (even 64s has 38%), but if everyone behind fold, there is a decent overlay from the blinds and antes, and we only need 42% equity.
