it was HU in SnG and this guy was super cally and almost never let down top pair or even mid pair but i was getting horrific cards and could never take advantage ! any comments on my decision bad or good ? 18 outs and chance to finish tourney ? advice welcome on play pre-post flop also

Obvious call , almost everyone i guess will not fold 10J in that spot. I mean it's heads up, you have so many outs no matter what villain has. Two over cards, An inside straight draw, flush draw, hell you also had a chance to make straight flush !! I hope your next question will be a bit tougher than this one.:flowers:

You don't seem to be taking into account that all of you presumed outs aren't clean. For instance, if we assume hitting a J or T will win half the time, those 6 cards are equivalent to 3 clean outs.

What you should be doing rather than just counting how many cards improve your hand is estimating how your hand fares vs whatever you think his range is.
