$1.10 NLHE MTT: Middle pair in multiway pot in position, to bet or not to bet the turn/river?

Villian Stats (VPIP/PFR/AF): 40/13/0.8

So i've been doing pretty well in this micro MTT, donking up to a nice M, playing lots of pots and betting reasonably often. Then this hand occured, where I opt to call from the sb instead of raising my marginal hand out of position in a multiway pot. I checked the flop for pot control and if someone was doing the same with a (weak) ten. After being checked around on the turn, I decided to bet, to make the draws pay and see where I was at (so i could avoid making a difficult decision on the river, if someone had bet and more people called).

I decided to bet the river small (1/3rd of the pot), because the bigstack will most likely bet his Jack, won't raise this bet with a jack only and also would call a bet with a ten but doesnt bet the ten himself after being checked to. He must have known I'm weak, especially if I had checked the river, so he will probably bet the river no matter what, which leaves me with a difficult decision again.

Is this really dumb reasoning? Or did I make mistakes playing this pre/post flop and on what streets? Thanks for all you viewings on this one ;)

I would prefer a squeeze pre to see the flop HU or take it down there.
As played, I like the way you played it postflop

Probably raise pre, ATs isn't all that marginal against the limping ranges given MP2/CO are likely squeezing pretty wide.

As for post flop, probably check calling river to induce bluffs because there's a ton of missed draws and pair/draw combos he might bluff with (T9, 87, 97, T8, KQ, hearts)

This is a $1 MTT. People don't squeeze. They see a sooted hand and call.
