Theres probably 500 hands Ive played recently which I could post here for abit of an ego boost, where players have drawn out with some rediculous runner runner draw. But this hand Im really not sure if I played it right or not. The guy who won the hand was terrible and Id been waiting to get in a pot with him for a while.

The question really is, knowing he will call any draw, should I have slowed down and stopped betting? My hand had alot of showdown value against this guy. Im hoping your gonna say I just got unlucky but be honest

this is why i dont play stud or razz any more. so many bad players call with nothing but run like god and beat me. My A A K ends up being trounced by a J 2 6. If u dont run bad i would advise playing a lot of the other games besides holdem and omaha as everyone plays them without really knowing what there doing. I was playing a horse game and whilst playing Razz an guy 4 bet me with a full house lol

I play limit stud in cash tables, so I can vouch for the ineptitude of the people that play the game. I try to play at least .10/.20, since the higher limit does weed out some lesser players.

However, if I can be the devil's advocate: I am holding KQ suited with an A. A player raises with a 10 showing. Now, if I pair one of my cards, or if another of my suited cards comes out, my hand will improve, so I call to see the next card. Granted, the call on fourth is questionable with the double pair, but I am already short stacked so whatever. After fifth street, with a straight and flush draw, I have lots of outs unless you fill up. The rest is history.

It is simply hard to bully people out in a limit game. Especially in a low buy-in limit game. I don't think you played the hand improperly. However, I think you underestimate the value of your opponent's hand compared to their stack.

well written m8. If I hadn't double bet on 4th I could understand it but hey at the end of the day I wanted him to call with overcards, just not walk into a flush!

Once you got to 5th street villain was on a draw and was virtually pot committed. It was bet and pray time for him. He hit his draw, you didn't fill. Even if you had not placed the leadout bet, I would say you were going to showdown with villain all-in by 7th street no matter how you played it.

Once villain hit his flush, he would have been all-in by 7th street anyway and it's unlikely you would have folded your 2 pair before 7th street... unless... you think there was any way that the 3 board hearts gave you reason to believe villain hit his flush and you'd have made one heckofa laydown. Only one of your fill cards had been on the board, so playing to fill was not unreasonable either.

Not an uncommon situation in stud. 1 hand improved, the other didn't. BTW - even if he hadn't hit the hand as a flush, he hit his Broadway Str8... so he was still ahead.

You also had the chip advantage. Villain had to gamble some at this point. I don't really find a problem with the hand as played, but then, I've only played 7stud live since '69 ... ;)

Looking at his hand maybe it wasnt played as badly as I thought & I understand the points you're making. I think maybe because I mainly play NLHE now, i found the check-calling here frustrating to say the least. Does that make sence?

if there is a guy who is always betting, let him bet, you dont need to lead out, let him do stupid things with his crazy draws

It absolutely makes sense. It tooks me hundreds of hands to get used to the fact that you cannot just push people out of pots with a large bet. It is easy in limit games to call one or two bets on a reasonable draw, top pair, or two pairs. I commonly check-call until seventh street on a hand that if it hits I know its the nuts.

However, I find that limit stud is a far less volatile game than hold 'em. I would stick with it, because it will make you a better hold 'em player in the long run.
