An Oregon real estate agent has pleaded guilty to money laundering in connection with a mortgage fraud case involving Vancouver-based Lighthouse Financial Group, which also did business under the name Crown Point Financial Services.

Chael Sonnen, 33, of West Linn, Ore., entered the plea Monday in U.S. District Court in Portland. He will be sentenced March 28. The maximum sentence is 20 years in prison and a $500,000 fine.

According to a news release, Sonnen acted as the real estate agent in a transaction involving a home in Portland, and submitted a false letter and sales agreement instructing the title company to disburse $69,000 to a contractor for plumbing repairs. However, in a deal arranged by Lighthouse employees, $65,000 of the money was actually kicked back

Damn Sonnan's gone from bad to worse

Holy crap! Chael really is a complete douchebag. First was that whole steroid stuff that was going on, that he was able to get his suspension reduced from 12 months to 6 months, because he proved that he told the UFC that he was indeed taking a certain kind of steroid for a medical condition that he had.. and now this.. I don't think he can get himself out of this one.

Chael is a very smart guy.. and would probably make a really good politician, lol. He actually considered running for some kind of office before.

Does this mean that we're not going to see an Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen rematch? lol

News story, btw:

Although the max sentence is 20 years in prison.. it's highly doubtful that he'll do that time, or anytime in jail, really --- "The government will recommend that Sonnen be sentenced to two years of probation, according to The Oregonian."

Sonnen pleaded guilty Monday to a single count of money laundering in U.S. District Court and will face a recommended sentence of two years' probation. Sonnen has also agreed to pay a $10,000 fine and give up his Realtor's license, according to The Oregonian (via the Las Vegas Review Journal).

It seems the government must not that this to seriously
