How much should I have before investing in poker tracker or holdem manager?

It's never too early to start investing in poker tracking software. In all seriousness, it's hard to say in terms of bankroll--I would instead say; do so when you want to start taking poker more seriously. Both programs have a free trial period (60 days for PT3 and 15 days for HEM), and in that time, they can help you earn enough to cover the cost of either one of them (maybe several times over).

Start a change jar, throw some loose change into it every day, buy HEM.

TBH I wouldnt play golf without a putter even though techicnally I still could.

For historical, and maybe hysterical purposes, save your site HH's to a different directory (folder). Tilt and Stars both will manipulate the directory you store your HH's to and delete old hands.

Once you get a tracker you don't have to worry anymore as pt3 (and I'm hem) will move the files as they come in to a different directory (folder).

you don't need a Hud.Make notes on the opponents yourself.
You will find the maniacs, call stations Lags Tags etc by watching.
Relying on Huds makes you careless.
