It is an interesting question. Should we be held responsible for the actions of our governments?
To a certaion extent, yes. I think when fully-fledged, self-governed countries bnehave contrary to international standards, everyone needs to experience the consequences.
However, I find that when I apply the same logic to the situation in Palestine, I cannot quite reconcile the scale of the reposnse. I do think that to a certain extent, since Palestinians voted for a governmental/administrative wing of Hamas to government. However, the military wing of Hamas is not ruled by the administrative wing...so it is difficult to expect your average Palestinian person to be held responsible for the actions of Hamas.
So here I sit with cognitive dissonance ... worrying for the fate of those caught up in these awful battles for power.
I'd like to see a complete deconstruction of our systems, strupping them all down and rebuilding them for a future where humanity is looked after by government and we stop pillaging the planet for brief financial (capitalist) gain. Butr that won't benefit the people in power...so it can't happen without a revolution...which would also be ugly and bloody.
