Warning regarding PokerStars

I want to make this post to let people know what happened this week.

My brother had his pokerstars account hacked and lost 100$.
He simply logged in and his money wasnt there anymore.
He contacted support and support confirmed the hack but told him they were not going to give his money back, because he was responsible for his password.

So basically this is like a bank being robbed and telling their customers that their money is gone and thats their own fault.

Also how come a customer should be punished because of a flaw in a security system that doesnt belong to the customer?

Everyone can get hacked, even FBI and NASA get hacked sometimes.
But keeping your money without any kind of insurance is unethical and imoral in my opinion and thats why im also leaving PokerStars in the next weeks.

For everybody who have a PokerStars account, take care. Dont leave more than you need to play or more than you could afford to lose, because if someone steal your stuff, PokerStars wont care and will blame you.

Sorry but I think it s your brother s mistake , passwords must not be shared with anyone . Also if you want 100% security, there are some tools that pokerstars offer ( Not free) to ensure security, ( you can buy USB key that s related to your account , so no one can access your account unless he got the USB key ) .

Yeah I'm listening.any indication where the hundred went.was it played,withdrawn or transferred to another player.personally I'm never depositing there again.seen the same tricks over and over.enough is enough and I simply couldn't recommend Pokerstars to anyone with any honesty or integrity after seeing so much blatant daylight robbery,sorry but that is the straight gods honest truth.

Tell him to check the audit history in PokerStars and you'll see where the money went. You can see if it was transferred or if it was lost in a game.

If it was transferred or lost in a game, PokerStars doesn't have your money, so how could they give it back to your brother?

It is better in such cases to do additional protection on the account to avoid any problems, I do not know how the other players are withdrawing money, but I have to enter the correct personal details of the bank card and confirm that the card is in my name, and only then the money comes me on the card, maybe your brother's money just transferred to another player or something like that!

Sry to hear that about your brother but i dont think that ps would just take their customers money like that, 100$ would be small amount for them, wouldnt it?

Very sad story. But no one could withdraw money. Just will not work. They could be transferred to another player and this will be displayed in the story.

If it was transferred or lost in a game, PokerStars doesn't have your money, so how could they give it back to your brother?

when he got hacked i told him to do so, but he contacted support first and then support simply blocked everything in his audit option and later the whole account so he cant check it anymore.

i told him to ask the support for every single information about the hack and i really think its his right to have this information because if pokerstars wont do anything about it, someone needs to do. Justice needs to be done.

Never play PokerStars.

It's very surprising that this is possible.
and it's strange that the poker room, namely poker stars, did not return the money.
Especially the amount is not great.

No, banks have to pay FDIC insurance- it's not like a bank being robbed.

You have no way of knowing if a friend of your brother stole their login credentials or even if he's got the story right.

It's a loss - use 2FA perhaps.

Sorry to hear of the loss, but I don't hold PokerStars as a bad guy here.

First step to protect a pokerstars account is, besides the password, add pin protecting.
You'll get a 6-digit pin which you have to use every time you login.

well I have no worries because I have only 5 cents in my account now. The most I have had at one time is about 10 or 15 dollars. I agree though that Pokerstars should be responsible to a certain degree for hacking of your money. Maybe they should have a certain limit that they should be liable to cover, and anything over that is on your dime.
