I’m looking to play a little bit after an extended absence from online poker. I have a couple friends who play on ACR. However, I still live in Washington State, USA. Is it worth it to go through the hassle of starting an account from there, or even neighboring state Oregon? Has anybody in this area had luck playing on other sites?

It’s good to see cardschat still going strong after all these years. Good luck!

Not really sure I understand the question? When you open an account on any site, you need to present proof of adress to verify it. This at a minimum need to be done, before you can request a withdrawal. So you cant just randomly sign up from a different place from, where you live or at least have a secondary residence / vacation house. I am also not sure, which difference it would make to sign up from Washington or Oregon? Its not like, the terms and conditions or promotions are going to be any different.

I have friends in Washington State who have an impossible time playing anywhere because of that states poker laws, considering online poker as a felony is pretty extreme... I'm not sure it matters where you sign up from if you are still going to be attempting to play in the state.

I did not know about this special law in Washington State. If playing online poker is considered a crime and might lead to a significant fine or even a prison sentence, then I will advice OP to follow the law of the place, where he live, and not play. It might also very well be, that even ACR wont accept players from Washington due to this law. Maybe some subscription based services are possible according to this article:

I played online poker for many years from Washington State even after the state declared it illegal and for several more after Black Friday. It’s a very complicated legal situation, however the state has not to date prosecuted, charged, arrested or even slightly harassed anybody for playing poker online from Washington state.

The above link is outdated because we actually do have legal sports betting in the state of Washington, offered at sportsbooks in Tribal casinos with App betting set to start soon. There are even lawsuits working through the courts to allow the various cardrooms in the state to offer sports betting as well as legislation proposed with bipartisan support.

Things are slowly changing in the state, although it does seem to be staunchly desiring to limit gambling in the state, at least legally.

As for my personal situation, I’ve recently moved very close to the border of Washington and Oregon. I work mostly in Oregon. My bank is based in Oregon. The only questions are : Is Washington geofenced from downloading the software, registering an account or playing on the software? Or would I have to do any or all of that while in the state of Oregon, if that state even allows you to do any of that. There’s also their smartphone app which would allow me to play without even needing to have my laptop with me. I also do travel to British Columbia, canada a couple times a year. That is an option I would like to have available to me (although my wife might not agree with that).

I’m not too concerned with whether I can withdraw or deposit although both would be nice. I didn’t care much for doing either of those things while I was playing real money online poker pre Black Friday.

Hopefully this will get me some better feedback especially from any players who have played on ACR from Oregon or Washington and can tell me if the software is even worth bothering with or if there are other options for playing.

Acr software and their mobile app are the worst on the market. Good luck.

Do you have a better option that accepts new players from Oregon?

Try out chico network. Way better software than acr, very good mobile app and pretty soft. Unfortunately no rakeback. Not sure if its open for u but u could ask a rep/support of them first.

I would strongly recommend mixing sites, especially if ur options are limited.

I will look into the Chico network. Does anybody have any success playing on their sites from Washington or Oregon?
