Which brings up an interesting point. What if you live in Oregon, but your IP address is assigned from a POP in Washington? IP addresses do not follow state boundaries. Those that know how to do Tor proxy can look like they access applications from literally any place in the world.

I will find it interesting to follow how they can enforce this.

Well you still have to have an address that proves you live in a different state - so between the 2 things it would be difficult to get around. I am sure a handful of people will succeed but most won't.

Well forget IP addresses for a minute thy can enforce that everyone that was once listed as being from Washington re send in picture ID and they can also enforce that these people can only get paid by check mailed to an address outside of WA. That changes the game a little. Sure you can get a friend from another state to grab the check but it might still be a hassle.

I did some research on this and some reading on various sites and it seems like this is an act to help support casinos in Wa. state. Reading between the lines, it seems that the tribes in the pacific NW have some political influence and are using it to ban online poker to theoretically bring more business to their casinos. The state is all messed up anyway...apparantly the pro online poker players claim (correctly) that poker is a skill game and since horse racing is legal....online poker should be as well. The Wa. state legislature rules that horse racing ISNT gambling....that should tell you all you need to know about how dirty bill is. I'm sorry to our players in Wa. state and hope that common sense eventually prevails.

Gosh, i hope Arizonia wont be next in line to block online poker?

I think Az is kinda hung up on the immigration laws right now ;) Having said that, how are the casinos doing out there. If they're struggling, then maybe they'll make a similar move to Wa. state. I don't recall this being on the radar at all when I lived out there but its been a few years now.

Isnt freedom of choice one of the pillars of a democracy? If I have no malicious intent to encroach on somebody else freedom then I should be entitled to do whatever I want with my money! Especially if I work and pay income tax! politics is the biggest load of bull on the planet-with religion a close 2nd!

The casinos in AZ are doing "quite well" actually. They are building newer, bigger facilities every day. AZ lawmakers don't give a rats ass about online poker. They are too busy with their own narsassitic spending world to worry about us.

Yeah - every poker room I've seen in AZ is doing well right now.

Full tillt to follow suit in state of washington?

Was wondering the same thing. Any reason for them all not to?

I did some research on this and some reading on various sites and it seems like this is an act to help support casinos in Wa. state. Reading between the lines, it seems that the tribes in the pacific NW have some political influence and are using it to ban online poker to theoretically bring more business to their casinos. The state is all messed up anyway...apparantly the pro online poker players claim (correctly) that poker is a skill game and since horse racing is legal....online poker should be as well. It's disgusting how the politicos have no shame whatsoever spewing their illogical rationale as to what constitues gambling. Like they even give a rat's ass about human gambling rights :p at all. Like we are too stupid to realize the casino and race track owners are lining the pockets of these spin doctoring puppets. They are as corrupt as some state lotteries. If I see that freaking PA groundhog again this week, I may just shoot my TV. Cut that advertising budget and clean up the massive amount of garbage on our streets. The state can help. This is the only big city I've ever lived in that does not have street cleaning - nor many garbage pails. But I digress.

It is a violation of Wisconsin State Statutes to gamble online. It is a misdemeanor by statute. It remains unenforced, since I have played continuously since 2006.

Notice that Wisconsin is one of those states with a huge Indian population and numerous casinos they own. Unenforced, eh? Trust me, they are probably working on it. Happy to say at least Pennsylvania voted online gambling to be a-okay. No misdemeanor. Home games too, all perfectly legal. However, this June a bill was passed for the casinos to allow poker tables, so that may all change. But we are very safe for now, and hoping it's harder to overturn something that has been specifically legislated as legal.

Crazy.

For a country that charges taxes on gambling/winnings i don't understand why they would try force banning it. It would turn over billions for the government. Just like Cigarettes, alcohol etc.

I guess England isn't so bad after all, no ban and no taxes or i'd never play!

Yes, and they've run ads with the slogan, "It's good to play." Walking by those automated yellow scratch card/lotto ticket dispensers at the grocery store ticks me off every time.

Lots of places like bars, restaurants and bowling alleys also sell pull tabs, another -EV gamble.

Well election time is coming up. So why not start pushing for change on the people that are running at the state level. Get a hold of the canidates and ask them to change the law. Get a hold of the Poker Players Alliance and see if they can help at all.
