brazil finished this year's pokerstars SCOOP with a staggering 67 Championship titles! This beat Brazil's total from last year by 9!

I have a question...

How did Brazil become such a powerhouse with online poker?

Brazilian Twitch streamer and 888poker pro Vivian Saliba had some interesting thoughts provided in the video below starting at about 2:36:00 and ending 2:38:45

Hi there i'm from brazil and didnt knew her at all, but there somethings she said that makes sense.. i dont believe that thing about poverty is one of them. To achieve results on poker you need to study hard and keep doing it for a longtime.. and its really hard to focus and play well if your life aint easy. also the brazilian real is way down compared to dollars so to deposit like a hundred dollars that i imagine is an easy or at least normal deposit in many countries here it would be a lot of money (R$500).

I'm from Brazil and I know that poker is growing very fast here, the same thing with the sports bets markets. I saw that in 2006 there were 100.000 players and 4m in 2018 (this is not data from PS). I wish I could know the % of brazilian players that plays on PS in comparation with other countries. I remember that when US players were allowed to play, they used to dominate the tournaments, probably because they had the largest number of players.

Poker is the fastest growing sport in Brazil. Every year the number of players grows, poker becomes more and more organized, poker teams grow in Brazil. The Internet helped a lot in this popularization of Poker in Brazil.

To me, it makes sense that Brazilians would be as passionate about poker as they are with any other sport. Just as 'webwiser' stated there simply seems to be a steady growth of players and could be partly due to the fact that in 2012, the Brazilian Ministry of Sport endorsed poker as a game of skill which might give the game a bit more credibility, too.

I did not know it, about that endorsement by the 2012 Ministry of Sport.
I believe, also because of the multiethnic characteristic and other things in relation to that, we adapt easily to various types of games and sports. Even in winter sports, snow sports... it is possible to find some Brazilians competing.

I think the math is quite simple

1. americans can't play at Pokerstars
2. asians play at asian poker sites
3. Brazil has the biggest population outside Asia and US

Hi, I'm from Brazil too.
Brazilians are very interested in poker nowadays where the winnings can be very big because they are paid in dollars, but not only for this reason the internet connection in the country has become more accessible for most of the Brazilian population.
the number of Brazilians playing poker may increase even more as physical casinos are still banned in Brazil, but it is close to being legalized in the country.
