besides making money, is it better than just playing one table for earning FTP stuff? faster?

If by stuff you mean FTP points, then yes, 3-tabling earns you points about 3 times faster than single tabling.

On the other hand, the value FTP points is negligible compared to the amounts you can win or lose at the tables, so you really shouldn't focus on that.
