Where can I find details on Hollywood's rewards program. And will there be rewards for time played in the Poker Room?

On the curiosity side, why is PLO a time rake? Not enough hands dealt?

I know at Hollywood Lawrenceburg, we get a $1 an hour for cash games...hopefully it will be similar at Columbus. Here is some info on the rewards program...its from Lawrenceburg but its the same. http://www.hollywoodindiana.com/Club Hollywood

We will begin promotional offers and offers after opening. On the PLO/Time-Rake question, it simply has to do with the typical pace of a PLO game. I am a PLO player myself and prefer a time-rake to %.

Poker Room

Just visted for first time yesterday. Will list some negatives for you to think about as well as some positives.
1. Columbus has many PLO players that play multiple times a week. However your decision to make PLO time rake is going to make it hard for you to get games off. 16 dollars an hour to play is punitive considering there are local clubs that let you play as long as you want for 20 dollars. Also, the dealer speed at this point is slow, we had one shift where the button didn't make it a full round in a half hour. It takes extra time for the dealers to collect off everyone and call the floor to drop rake. I know taking 160 an hour off the table sounds good to you, but it won't matter if you can't establish a regular game. Please consider making PLO regular rake at the 2/5 level.
2. Not giving a time comp for play seems petty. Hollywood Indiana reduced theirs, but still gives .50 per hour. Part of the draw of a casino is being able to get a free buffet or free drink every once in a while.
3. Blinds in big games are 2/10 and 5/25. Effectivly this means there is no true small blind or reason to straddle. Columbus poker has always been 5/5, 5/10, or 10/25. Please consider a more balanced blind structure.
4. I was told twice yesterday by floor and by dealer, that they didn't think the poker room was doing reduced rake for less than six players. Reduced rake does'nt cost casino anything, as you get more hands out with less players. Also, I saw one game end, and another not start because rake reduction wasn't offered for short hamded play.
Now positives.
1) Inside is as nice as any casino I've been too.
2) Dealers and staff were much better prepared than when Cleveland opened.
3) 100% buy in rule is a very good idea, and it's similar to what we have been playing in clubs.

Thanks for playing with us. Just to answer a few of your concerns above:
1. We can take regular rake in the PLO games if players request it. No problem there.
2. We are not giving comp time but we will be having other ways to get free buffets, etc..plus swag, cash, and other giveaways. We cannot comp or offer reduced price drinks in the State of Ohio.
3. The blind structure is designed to be favorable to regular players and create more legitimate action in the small blind. A live straddle is a mathmatically negative value play at any blind structure; putting money at risk unnecessarily, without the benefit of having looked at your cards, and out of position. I do agree with you that the straddle creates action, but it does that regardless of the blinds. What the point of these blind structures in larger games is that it saves players $3 (in $2/10) or $5 (in $5/25) per round. I am 100% good with your opinion on this one, but we may just have to agree to disagree.
4. We do a reduced rake (upon request), with 5 players or less. 10% to $4 max.

Thank you for your additional comments too. We appreciate hearing the good stuff as well.

Best,
Matt

Thanks for response. Now, if I could just get some Iced Tea in the Poker room. I'll owe you one if you can get them to serve it, Iced Tea is the Nuts, and for some reason it was left off the beverage lineup.

I managed visiting 3 times last month. I can see myself playing at least 4 - 5 times a month!

I absolutely love the Bravo Poker Live App! I get done at work around 3:15pm, so I start checking the tables and the wait around 2pm. I call and get on the list and I they have been ready to roll when I walk in the door!

Look to get some time in again this Friday! CYA!

Not much of a craps player, does that mean you'll be working there and holding the stick?

Texas Hold'em Tournament Fundraiser

I am trying to find a good place to hold a Texas Hold'em Tournament Fundraiser for our Youth Football Tackle League. If anyone has any ideas on a great place to hold this event, please let me know. We are a youth football association and will be holding this event at least once a month to raise money to purchase new equipment and uniforms to play in the 2013 season starting in July. I am looking to hold the first tournament on December 1st 2012. Everything else is in place except the location. Someone please help....

Check the laws on charity tournaments before you do this. Even though you are doing a good thing for the kids people have run afoul of the law in these matters. I am pretty sure you can only run tournaments for a single charity twice a year. Not trying to be a downer about it but don't want to see anyone get into trouble for doing something good. Also normally charity events such as this need to be held in a property or location that is normally rented or owned by the charity or affiliate or in a quasi - government facility such as VFW, FOE, Moose Lodge and so forth.

Yep, on stick or on base.

Always great to put a face with names. I was standing behind you for a while watching you work. Not a hopping table at the time. What a horrible night of hands for me that night! I played great and in the situations I wanted, but man the cards and the board never let me do too much! Not to mention the 1/2 games have a lot of land mines to manuever.

Hope I didn't get you in trouble!

All of the tables in that room have tons of landmines. LOL Better luck on the next visit. Nice meeting you.

I'm playing cash every Friday mid-afternoon/night. Many times into late the next morning. For the most part the dealers are excellent and giving us a lot of hands per hour!

36 tables now and pretty full on Friday nights!

And, I always try to take a peek to catch CSuave "working" at the craps tables!

2/5 game

Hello Matt,

Regarding the recent capping of the 2/5 NL game at $500. You have killed the only big game the casino offered on a regular basis. Now the choices are uncapped 1/2 or capped 2/5. All of the players that were playing 2/5 are now scouting for deep 1/2 games where they can buy 100% of the big stack. 2/5 with 100% rule only gets off if someone begs the floor and other players to change it. The poker room now only offers 1 level of play as the capped game is only as big as some regular 1/2's. People used to to come from out of town because they heard how good the action was, I would suggest changing your slogan now to "come to Columbus, home of the 2/5 cap game." It's absurd that you have have this many big players playing in small games. Why would you possibly leave your smallest game uncapped and cap your high limit game? If you want a diverse set of games cap the small ones and leave the big games uncapped. I would also suggest showing your face in the poker room sometimes and asking the customers what they want instead of hiding in an office unavailable for comment. The comps are lousy, the rake is tied for as high as an any in the US, the Poker room food menu is a joke, and frustration is boiling over. Please wake up and make some changes.

Is this true? I would think if you were going to cap a game you would give it the same cap as a new 1/2 game--150 BB.

Many times the dynamics shift at the 1/2 games when 2/5 ADD players are in and out of the game or hopping from one empty seat to another. The 1/2 game gets pretty big as it is, it will be interesting to see if the 1/2 changes even more because of this.

I hope not!

I see a capped game and a regular 2/5 game playing now. So it appears that they just added the capped as an option!

I talked a little bit with Mark who was on the floor last night. This is exactly it. And, I suppose if we had checked the CHPR facebook page, it was spelled out there and questions concerning the game are addressed there as well!

I saw you again last night Matt, but did not get to corner you. I wonder why I've only seen you there on the Friday nights when Chris Moneymaker is there? hmmm :D BTW, thanks for the Moneymaker promotion. I was fortunate enough to win one of the 9 initial seats at the table last night! :)
