By a pc. Problem solved!

Hahaha, I don't know much more than the average computer user. Is Ubuntu linux? If it is, I heard that if you don't install linux os right, things could mess up big time.

My apologies if I have no idea of what I'm talking about. LOL

I run FTP under WINE on Arch linux all the time. The only problem I have is it doesn't like to do the updates (I have to redownload and reinstall) and I haven't gotten the web links inside the game to work which doesn't bother me much... but those who play the freerolls here would want to be able to register from another computer I guess.

I do not prefer Ubuntu, but linux is linux for the most part...

If wine is properly installed you should be able to simply doubleclick on the fulltilt.exe (or whatever it is) icon and it will run...

Usually wine software is installed in /home/<your_user>/.wine/drive_c/ with a program files directory just like on a windows machine.

So you could open a terminal window and type:

wine /home/path/to/the/fulltilt/exe/file and see if it runs.

If that doesn't work,

By a pc. Problem solved!

Linux runs on PCs and MACs.

Im switching to Linux because the majority of software I use is open source and I find myself looking for alternatives to good Linux programs because they aren't ported to windows. I also was always trying to make Windows use less and less resources, turning off absolutely everything that I could that was unnecessarily in and running on windows .

Now I have gotten to the point where I have no reason to run a Windows OS except for poker. I have "completely" switched over to Ubuntu(for now). I took a XP SP2 disc and stripped it down considerably (from ~500 megs down to ~150) to run in a Virtual Machine. Booting this stripped XP uses less than 50 MBs of RAM. Poker clients are running fine in it. Next step setting up a postgresql server on the linux side, and connecting HEM to it from the VM.

Hopefully Ill be playing poker with HEM on "Ubuntu" later on tonight or tomorrow, whenever I get the chance to play around with it.

Don't know if anything will be different since Im doing this on a 32bit laptop. But I was thinking of making a how-to post when Im done (pretty much piecing together the info I have found since you can't find it all in one place). It hasn't been very hard so far, but Ive just been slowly piecing it together. Lets see how the rest of it goes and how well it works first.

VM instructions:
Install Virtualbox
Install XP in the virtual machine
You will now have a full XP install which will run any XP program

Post your output from the terminal when you run wine. You should see some warnings and errors like this:
fixme:msg:pack_message msg 14 (WM_ERASEBKGND) not supported yet
fixme:comm:set_queue_size insize 256 outsize 256 unimplemented stub

My only problem with this is the Full XP install, as I am trying to get this up and running on a laptop with 1 gig of ram. I needed to strip XP of everything I didn't need, and since Im only playing poker and running HEM I could get rid of a lot.

Got it all up and running last night, and got my database restored today. Going to play a couple games in a little bit see how it runs with more than 1 table at a time.

Running FTP right now with no problems on Arch with XFCE and wine. Stars works fine too. All I had to do was install it. Used to work fine for me on puppy linux too.

So Im guessing you don't use PT3 or HEM.

Got mine all set up and it definitely runs great, seamless mode on virtualbox is pretty nice. Using a couple hundred megs of ram less than my regular XP setup was.

Yesterday I put a fresh install of vista sp1 on my computer, then took it apart and cleaned the heatsink and fan. Running like a dream
