I've been looking into this. I'm a mac so my options are limited, but according to several online sources pokerstars and Full Tilt are among the least fishy sites, and I can believe this. I only belong to full tilt, and there are definitely fish there, but I look up the players who I play with and frequently they're sharks who have earned thousands of dollars online and played hundreds of thousands of hands (at .25/.50!).

The way these websites make it sound - the ones who review poker rooms - sites like pacific poker, Players Only, and Sportsbook poker are packed full of fish who play loosely and call just about anything. I'd be interested in hearing other member's thoughts on this, because the others players is by far, to me, the most important thing.

You can find fish at every site at those limits. You don't really need to worry about not finding them. The bigger the site, obviously the more fish there will be because there are more players overall on the site. Full Tilt, PokerStars and UltimateBet will be the best in that respect, you still have to find the fish.

Of course you can find fish, I'm talking about the fish to shark ratio. Your assumption that the bigger the site, the more fish might be true in absolute numbers, but we're talking about ratios. Virtually every source I have found places Pacific Poker at #1 in fish, unfortunately it does not allow American players!

Sportsbook poker also ranks very high, and I would set up an account there if I had a PC.

What I am telling you is that at the micro and low limits you rarely have to worry about that because no one there is OVERLY good. You shouldn't really worry about "sharks" until you are at about the high lower limits or middle limits. That is where most of those stats come from anyway, if they are actually coming from anywhere at all(most ranking sites seem to rank the sites that give them the most in rakeback the highest, could very well be the case).

There's plenty of low-stakes grinders on full tilt. I don't play micro-micro, I play .25/.50 and there's plenty of people who have earned thousands playing at the tables and have well over 100,000 hands under their belt. There are definitely fish on FT, but the way poker review sites describe it, entire sites are fish up to the high limits. I would love to hear from a successful player on FT or poker stars who has an account on Sportsbook what it is like.

Sportsbook and bodog are know for their fishy players. This make sense because these sites are also attached to sports betting websites, so many of the players on these sites are just looking to gamble to have "fun".

sometimes playing against fishes can work against you let me give you an example lets say you have Pocket aces and a loose player calls with 72 and the board comes 7 2 5 you think this is a pretty safe board especially if you raise preflop and then you raise and the loose player re raises and you just are wondering what kind of hand could your opponent be playing after you raised. Also that means you wouldn't be able to bluff to often since your opponents call all the time plus you wouldn't be able to make your opponent move off his hand if he had a gut shot straigh draw or flush draw and believe me if a loose player has a flush draw they dont seem to fold the hand for anything >.> Tom Dwan. So yeah i like to play with a variety of players from loose and tight this way I can test myself and try new techniques of playing from loose to tight and to switch from one style to another. I like to play agaisnt tight players heads up because i just end up stealing their blinds and by the time they get a good hand i would steal the blinds ike 5-10 times. It is true full tilt poker and pokerstars have loose players but beware they also can be dangerous.

^This. Basically the entire Cake network is full of sports book bettors at micro levels thanks to Sportbook and Players Only. Most of them couldn't care less about playing poker. They're just gambling. There is a small group of regulars to watch out for, but you'll notice who they are after a couple of days.

At the super micro stakes at Full Tilt are full of easy players. I sat down there with 25 cents and come out with a dollar all the time.

FISH EVERYWHERE

All the sites have fish, but the smaller sites would be my vote for having the most fish. Why? Because that is where the beginner on-line poker players gravitate to.

The "better" players will be playing on the more "active" sites which, by definition, are the ones that are bigger and has more action. At least this makes sense to me. Better poker players will play where there is more action and tables where they can win bigger amounts.

Hope this helps,

Wally

I understand, but on balance it's good. I would think it's trickier to always have to adjust your game. With call stations you can get a lot of value for your good hands. I got donked out on today:

I was in the BB with A4o, MP calls, SB calls. Flop comes A 2 8 rainbow. I raise $3, MP raises to $6 (I know MP is a donk). SB folds. I call. Turn comes 3. We both check. River comes Q. I check and he raises $3. I call. He turns over 54 for the straight.

I still feel on the balance it is good to play with call stations.

I would love to register, but I can't.

First off, you left out a lot of information of how the hand went down. Second, from how you described the hand, you played it badly. When facing a raise from a guy(whether you think he is a donk or not, btw... how did you come to that conclusion???), when you have top pair crap kicker, you should have just folded. I actually like his play quite a bit. He raised you because he probably figured that you were betting a fairly dry board, and you didn't raise pre-flop, so you more than likely don't have a high ace. Granted he only had 4 real outs, he had reasons for this play. Then, by him checking the turn along with you, he knew he had the hand and figured you would more than likely put more money in the pot on the river when you think he is just bluffing. The only thing I don't like is how small his raise is on the river, but it worked.

That is funny, caught him in a lie....Love when that happens.

The sports book sites make sense. Also, sites that do not allow USA players have more inexperienced players, as the poker craze is just now hitting in many countries. My personal favorite is party poker, lots and lots of East European/Russian fishies.
