Filling out a W-2 for $135...What?

Last night after placing 3rd in a relatively small MTT, I went to claim my winnings and the woman at the cage handed me a W-2 and asked for my driver's license. I asked her if I was legally obligated to fill this out, as I really wasn't interested in doing it for my own personal reasons and she stated that it was "just something our casino has started doing for their own purposes". I went ahead and obliged somewhat reluctantly...She scanned my driver's license, made me sign and print my name four different times, and I also had to give them my address and my social security number. She then told me it would be in their records for the next six months. Has anyone else had to fill out a W-2 to claim such a small amount of money?

In my state of Mich. I believe when you win 600.00 plus you have to do that. Think it's not too big a deal imo.

I thought it was very strange for such a small amount of money. I personally don't like handing over such information to a casino, but I had a feeling if I didn't they wouldn't give me my winnings.

i wouldnt worry about it. is $135 gonna move u to the next tax level? lol probably not. its not a big deal.

yeah, but ive heard of older players who receive social security or something and wouldnt want that to be tallied up, but still its only 135.

its a shame that happened, hope it didnt ruin ur experience of doing so well at the tourn.

throw it on ur taxes. if it really bugs u, maybe find another casino.

$135 does seem really small...no idea why the casino would make you do that.
