"until we reverse what nazi bush and his cronies have done"

LOL at this ridiculous statement.

The poker funding legislation was garbage, but why don't you aim your anger where it rightfully belongs? The people who were most threatened by online gambling were the B&M casinos and horse tracks, who were seeing their revenues drop as more and more people played online, and THOSE are the people who lobbied to have the anti-online gambling bill passed to protect their gambling monopoly. And the only way that it actually did pass was to add it on as a rider to a Homeland Security bill, so that nobody would dare to challenge it for fear of being labeled as "soft on terrorism."

"Nazi Bush and his cronies" had little to do with it. Why don't you research how your local Congressman and Senator voted on this bill, and do something useful with your anger by letting them know how you feel? (That is, if you are old enough to vote.)

LOL at this ridiculous statement. While it's true that B&Ms and racetracks do have a vested interest, it's also true that a driving force behind this law was the moralistic absolutism of the right wing of the Republican party. These are the people who pass moral judgment about lifestyle issues such as gay marriage, reproductive rights, casual drug use and gambling. The funny thing is that it's this segment that's the first to wave the flag and trumpet the virtues of this great country, founded on the principles of individual freedom, while at the same time wanting to pass laws outlawing any activity they disagree with. It's not enough for them to proffer their opinion and try to affect behavior through the strength of their argument. Again and again and again they want to proscribe the limits of personal choice and prohibit those activities which they see as immoral. Recent statements by Bush staff members reveal that even though there were those in the administration that despised the pandering to the religious right, it was at the very least a strategic decision to woo and expand this base.

When you read the arguments of prohibitionist politicians, they are based largely on the evils of gambling, and they trot out examples of the college student who blew his tuition and the addictive nature of internet gambling. I'm sure there are behind-the-scene mechanations by casino groups, but it's just silly to say that such manipulations are the driving force or the only factor.

Let's face it - the country was hijacked by moralistic crusaders that want to tell you what you can and can't do, and there was a President and senators such as Kyl, Goodlatte and Fryst that were enthusiastically on board.

But you are right, it is a good idea to let your congressman and senators know how you feel. PPA makes it easy; you can go to their website and send an e-mail to your legislators directly from there - you don't even have to know their names.

I posted this on another thread but sign-ups start Today at 5pm for this freeroll. Get in early in case there are limits on the amount of players they let in. Just went to the site and they have a limit of 4000. It will fill up quick.

I'm in! And when I registered there were only about 800 spots left, so y'all get in there!

gl, at least we agree that people need to let their supposed "representatives" know when they do something that pisses them off, or else we have no voice at all. (Especially considering the low voter turnout for non-Presidential elections and the high retention of incumbents.)
