I just received a lucky draw ticket for a tourney tonight. The timing was definitely interesting though.. I made a 20$ deposit and just crushed the cash games last week starting from .10/.25 and kept moving up stakes. Turned it into 300 something on the .25/.50 tables. There was a moment I decided to go up to the 3/6 tables to see if I'm capable of playing at that level. I turned the 300 into 800 something fairly fast at those stakes. This was over a wknd. So I kept playing every night during the wk during my good run. After building my bankroll up to a little over 1k I thought it would be super easy to continue my streak, but eventually ended up losing over 50% of my bankroll over that wk. I took 2 days off of cash games and then got this ticket.

With that said, I think if you lose a couple hund and take a few days off you'll get something where they try to lure you in after taking some really bad beats. Honestly, I think if you have the 162 buy in to the Sunday 100k tourney, your better off just buying a seat. This is just my opinion.

Anyone else have this happen?

Without using any kind of BRM, your BR will suffer from these, what seem to be, huge swings..when in reality this is normal, you just need to be properly rolled for the games you are playing. Then the swings won't seem so big.

+1 if you bring a roll up to 1k in a week from a $20 deposit playing only cash games you are getting extremely lucky and a down swing is inevitable.

BankRoll

I agree w both of you.. If I didn't hit AA and KK back to back to get the BR to 300 I wouldn't have been there. Do you guys seriously believe that the stakes you play should be 15 % of your bank roll?? Just getting back into it and am wondering.

Thanks

You said you brought your roll up to 1k and lost half of it so I assume you have $500 plus left. You should be playing 10 NL if you want to avoid variance and assuming you are a good player at that level you would never go broke. 10 NL is really boring though so if the money is not to much too you then I feel like playing 25 NL is ok as long as you know variance could easily catch you at that level.

Buying my way in

Maybe i have to make larger deposits. I make several smaller one's throughout the month. Does anyone think that maybe it would be more beneficial to make a larger deposit once a month instead?

I've been on Bovada a couple of weeks. I've played some SnGs and MTTs, but not many - still getting a feel for it. Yesterday I got an email saying I won a ticket for the Lucky Draw Weekly. I have no idea how I won it. Just glad I did.
