I read about this story a while back. I feel like the casino should know about the ways to get an edge on the game of choice for the gambler and Phil just exploited what he knew was there weakness. They paid those professional craps players who learned how to throw a dice at a 45 degree angle and how to position their dice to get certain numbers. Then they changed the rule that you have to roll the dice not toss them up in the air. They should have paid Phil for finding a loophole then closed the loophole so no one does it again. Not that Ivey needs the money as he made a ton playing poker already but SHOW HIM THE MONEY!

i personally dont think that he did anything wrong. i think that he did everything in his power to increase his chances of winning. he found a defauall deck and convinced the casino manager to use them. he didnt do anything illegal or wrong. the blame should fall on that casino manager. because if i talk you into doing something stupid, whos to blame? me or you?

What he did is not easy. I don't know why people see it as a cheating. He took the advantage of the situation. I watched this video 2 years ago, can't quite remember how they realized how he did it, it sux he lost the money tho.

Onto the main issue of this thread - I don't understand why Ivy has to pay the casino back, it sounds outrageous to me. Sure, he hustled them... but that is a BIG difference from cheating. It sounds to me like this is the casinos fault for accepting his requests and allowing themselves to be hustled. Casino's hustle millions of people, it's about time someone hustled the casino. I really hope things turn around somehow in the courts, although that seems impossible at this point for Ivy to win this case. This puts a sour taste in my mouth about the Borgata, which used to be my favorite spot in AC.

Phil and the expert say:
1) The combination of the specially selected cards, the dealer and companion is a scam.
2) Phil asked the casino beforehand; his 'conditions'
3) nothing wrong from criminal law point of view
4) in practice they used marked cards, with the marking done by the manufacturer

Civil law is a very different story:
1) Borgata found out late and tries to get money back
2) Crockfords played Phils game and kept his money

In any case, it remains bad for the game, players that get an edge using a scam; no different from collusion in poker.
