New Jersey casinos will consider putting an end to smoking this year

It's not a done deal by a long shot but New Jersey lawmakers have listened to both sides of a possible 'smoking ban' in casinos in a hearing this past Monday. It's interesting that the state has banned smoking in public places but there was an exemption for the casinos.

'Monday’s hearing did not include a vote on Sen. Shirley Turner’s (D) bill, S-264. A version of the bi-partisian bill has been submitted every legislative session since 2006 by Turner. That was the year New Jersey banned smoking in public places, except — on the insistence of the casino industry — Atlantic City casinos.'

I'm never against smoking bans in any area. In the end, smoking is a choice but breathing isn't and "smoker's rights" is not something that has any meaning to me.

I dont smoke anymore, but I do have fond memories of hours on the triple trouble keno machines at casino rama with a drink and smoking away

I don't smoke and I hate smoke. Good decision for me, personally I think that smoking should be banned in all casinos

Not a surprise since New Jersey was at the forefront of the nation with "no smoking" areas. When I used to go down to AC in the 80s and 90s I loved that they had no smoking tables for blackjack. The reason being that you could always find a seat at one, while you couldn't in the pits where they allowed smoking. Then I could just get up once in awhile, walk twenty feet, and have a smoke. As I said in another thread I don't really mind because it helps me to cut down on my smoking. I just wish that in regards to myself and the things that I enjoy doing, that there weren't aggressive groups demonizing them.

Considering yoou cant smoke in most places anymore it is about time they do pass this resolution. I dont smoke and dont have any issues with people who do but why allow it inside I just don't get anymore. Will allow people like me to enjoy there casinos more.
