I dont sports bet or play black jack or slots or any casino games and am really frustrated that olp is getting bunched in the same legislation as all this other stuff. Its like greed is going to be the 1 thing that screws up progress that could be .

It has a number now, and I assume that means it has been officially introduced. However that might be a premature assumption. Googling HR2282 shows a bill from the last Congress about having all the flags of all the states and territories of the US circle the Washington Monument.

HR 2282.

The complete text is linked to in the latest PPA newsletter which I will assume everyone here gets in e-mail. And if you don't get it, you are not subscribed, and should be.

You can follow the progress of this bill at GovTrack.us, even sign up for e-mail updates

looks good on paper. Don't get too excited. Our Congress is slow to adapt to new ideas and this won't go over too well in the Bible Belt.

Its all about the tax dollars. If they legalize it... idk if we will be allowed to play on foreign sites again. Hopefully they can come up with some sort of agreement and bring back the big online sites. I don't care if they don't allow player to player transfers just let us play.

I wouldn't be surprised if casinos try to prevent this. online poker is not in there best interest. I personally think they should take a proactive approach and start their own online casinos and make it a point to support the legalization of online poker. It could open up a new source of revenue for them. This could be a win win situation for everyone...

There seems to be a lot of negativity towards the bill in this thread. I'm trying to remain optimistic. The government just needs to pass something to create jobs and bring in money!

When has Federal Regulation ever improved or helped anything? Look at their track record with education, agriculture, healthcare, banking & finance among many others. Every time Uncle Sam & his minions try to "Regulate" anything they completely destroy it in a matter of decades if not years. Just look where the U.S ranks against even supposed 3rd world countries in these areas after their Regulations.

Concerns me that it includes all those other forms of gambling. In states like Georgia that is really going to hurt our chances I think.
I agree. Also if it was just for poker and not other forms of gaming, then the casinos probably wouldn't fight as hard. Just my thoughts.

While I agree with the need to pass something, there is a better bill out there. A bill without casino gaming, which by and large is not supported by our foes, nor by most of our allies.

The differences between HR 2282 and HR 2666 are such that we as a block are going to need to decide which of these to champion. I am going to support the Barton bill (HR 2666)

Regulation of alcohol helped in that it replaced Prohibition. That's where we are....regulation is far better than prohibition.
