WSOP Won't be Canceled

So, that makes some poker players wonder if the WSOP will be postponed so, a few pros have even gone so far as to bet on a cancellation.

Is betting on a world-wide crisis crossing a line?

People from all over the world go to Vegas everyday (pre-Corona). Vegas is the petri dish of the planet! How many of you get sick within a couple weeks after a Vegas trip or even after a trip to the local casino?

Every virus on Earth makes its way to Vegas. These pros travel the nation or international scene weekly...they eventually get sick from being in casinos! Let's get real. Casinos are dirty.

One of the positives about this virus is that casinos will have cleanlier protocols. Wash and sanitize those chips every night!

Spare me the pandemic hysteria. The US has a sports economy and our professional leagues will be resuming by July. You can put your money on that! The pros betting that the WSOP tournament will be postponed or cancelled are going to lose their bets.

And no, betting on if a tournament will be postponed/cancelled based on a global pandemic is not crossing the line...betting on the number of deaths would be crossing the line. Remember, wash your hands and sneeze into your shoulder!

WSOP live will be cancelled for sure, but they are discussing online events instead.

But WSOP.com only works in the US, so if they want this to be a big global event they need to work with major poker rooms like Pokerstars or else I see no point in doing it online .

The majority of the US can't even play on WSOP.com for real money or the online events. Only Nevada and New Jersey can.

So many things can and will be wagered on and I would not be offended on people betting on whether or not the WSOP is cancelled. I think betting on death rates would be extremely tactless and offensive. But whether or not it impacts a particular event going forwards I do not see a major issue with. People will find anything to bet on and becomes more of a judgement on how the current climate affects events like this.

Maybe it is a bit classless? But it does not personally offend me.

With this coronavirus pandemic, you can't bet on anything else. Everything is so...

It is unlikely that he will begin on the appointed date. Most likely it will be transferred to another date or online.

At this point there's 50- 50 chances of it being cancelled. The general elections are in November so it would have to be held in sept-oct. A lot of players might not have the extra revenue to come to Vegas to play poker. It would basically be a World Series for front line workers, they are the only ones who are getting a paycheck. I guess since they announced it would be postponed, they could still run it but with no guaranteed prizes. Otherwise they might risk having losses. Maybe all the casino owners who didn't like the idea of on line poker and were lobbying politicians against it, might see the advantages of online poker.
As for betting if there's a World Series at all this year, it seems like a coinflip to me at this point.
