A Texas lawmaker is pushing for casinos to be legal in the state

Charlie Geren, Republican for Fort Worth, introduced legislation Monday that would amend the state’s constitution to allow casinos to be built in Texas. Naturally, the casinos would allow sports betting and has blessings from the NFL's Dallas Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones.

It's really no surprise that the Sands corporation is strongly in support of these proposals - so much so that they are funding the Texas Destination Resort Alliance. This is a lobbying coalition “fighting to bring the world-class gaming, entertainment, and restaurants Texans already enjoy in other states into our own backyards, creating billions in new revenue for our state to continue to make Texas the greatest state to live, work, and raise a family,” as stated on their website.

What is the likelihood that this bill would be passed in Texas? Where does poker stand if this proposal is accepted?

Interesting the difference in legislation in the US, isn't it? I never imagined that casinos would be banned in any state. Very well, you have to release it yourself. I hope the same happens here in Brazil.

This morning before noon I drove in 4 States starting in Utah with not a casino to be found anywhere and gambling illegal even on tribal lands. I then passed briefly through the corner of Arizona, a state where there are a few casinos but I think fairly big ones and tribal operated which is also the case with California where I ended up as I am writing this blurb. I did pass through and have breakfast in Las Vegas Nevada and I think gambling might have been legal there

Hopefully the final legislation doesn't outlaw the existing card houses across the state. It would be a shame if poker players had to settle for the high rake anti-player casino environment when they currently have better options across the state.

That's exactly what my takeaway was from the article. I do hope the poker rooms are not affected if this bill passes.

Any legislation to allow people from states to leagaly play is a good thing but like others I hope they dont screw the existing poker rooms. Since most casinos don't want them anyways let the existing rooms thrive for the poker players.
