It's just like ordering something from an online store, except now you are buying "virtual" dollars. I'd stick to the major poker companies such as fulltilt or pokerstars and stay away from the smaller rooms such as UB, Doyles, bodog, etc. at least when first starting out

Being in Australia, you have different 'rules' and laws than many of the responders from other parts of the world. Use the search function to help find the proper answers.

As for using a credit card online, believe me when I say that so far there have been no fraud cases involving poker sites THAT HAVE SURFACED. Depending on what browser you use, always look for a security lock icon somewhere on your screen when asked for a Credit Card #. That indicates the window and its contents are secured, and scrambled in some way to prevent the info from going anywhere other than intended. So in general, most credit card transactions are safe. If you can not find a LOCK ICON do not press enter to send that info!

on pokerstars and ultimate bet u can also deposit money by using paysafe cards u buy a card in the store or order them online(u can also check online selling points in youre neighborhood)on the card ul find a code enter it on pokerstars , UB , and the amount the card represents will b instantly credited to youre account so if u buy a card for 50$ the 50$ will b instantly deposited (its the same principal as the cards for youre mobile phone 2 get credits to phone)

I have been using my CC to deposit for a while now and have not had any problems. I love bodog as a site, but their pay out system is horrific now. they had a debit card option for a while which was awesome, but they cancelled it. now it takes up to 5 weeks to get any kind of payout unless you use the wire transfer option.

Most of the popular sites are pretty safe. Just be careful of who you give info to. Its a little bit more difficult to withdraw money that you win. They ask less questions when they get money than when they give it. But, I've never heard of anyone being denied money that they won.
